DIREG-TOP OF PARKS AND RECREATION CITY OF GRAPEVINE COUNTY OF TARRANT STATE OF TEXAS The City of Grapevine Parks and Recreation Board met Thursday, March 26, 1998 at 7:05 p.m. at City Hall, 200 South Main Street, Grapevine, Texas with the following members present, to wit: Larry Atchley Barbara Johnson Roy Robertson Art Pierce John Fox 7:15 Gina Dutcher Absent Ruth Nichol Shane Wilbanks Staff: Doug Evans Visitor: Debra Tridico Ryan Wade Linda Dobbs Willis Hayden Smith Jeff Kirkhuff Melissa Stevens 7:17 Mark Born Joe Moore The meeting was called to order at 7:.05 p.m. A motion was made by Hayden Smith and seconded by Barbara Johnson to approve the minutes of the February 12, 1998 meeting. The motion passed unanimously. Citizen Requests There were no Citizen Requests. Old Business Casey's Clubhouse: Doug introduced Debra Tridico. The dedication has been rescheduled from May 2nd to May 30a'. Debra explained the April 4th workday and passed around a worksheet. Debra requested everyone's assistance in getting donations for the special event. New Business A motion was made by Barbara Johnson and seconded by Ryan Wade to approve the request by Unity Church of Northeast Tarrant County to adopt Hughes Road, from SH 121 to Euless Main Street. The motion passed unanimously. Earthworks '98 — Joe Moore explained all the events going on throughout the City, including Dove Park from 8:00 am — 1:00 pm. Mid Year Budget Items — Doug Evans explained projects approved by City Council. An amount of $670,000 was allocated to Parks & Recreation: Lake GV Trail ....................... $ 287,500 Joint Use with GCISD ............. $ 30,000 Neighborhood Park Land ......... $ 30,000 Oak Grove Softball ................. $ 150,000 Sunshine Harbor .................... $ 50,000 Christmas Decorations ............. $ 20,000 Senior Center Bus .................. $ 80.000 $6,475,000 Sunshine Harbor Park — The meeting with citizens is scheduled for March 31a`. Doug Evans explained the history and efforts to resurrect the development of the park. REPORTS The new Recreation Superintendent Lori Wolfe-Smeby will be staring on April 13th The Parks reorganization plan was explained to the Park Board. The status on Capital Projects was given. This included the new Swimming Pool, Hwy. 26 Landscape Project and Hwy. 26 Hike & Bike Trail. MISCELLANEOUS BOARD ITEMS Roy Robertson thanked Parks for opening the Hood Lane entrance. An overlay of 14 feet was requested for Horseshoe Trails. Art gave a report on the TRAPS conference. Hayden Smith gave a report on the Youth Athletics Committee. There has been unauthorized use of the playing fields. Discussion ensued. A motion was made by John Fox and seconded by Barbara Johnson to adjourn. The motion passed unanimously and meeting adjourned at 9:04 p.m. RECORDING SECRETARY — Joe Moore, Assistant Director DIRECTOR OF PARKS AND RECREATION V. OLD BUSINESS A. Parks Tour/May Parks & Recreation Advisory Board Meeting Staff recommends that the Advisory Board tour the parks in Grapevine and forego the meeting. Staff recommends that the Board meet as early as possible in order to visit as many park sites as possible. VI. NEW BUSINESS A. Establishment of standards for hike and bike trails Staff recommends the Board approve standards for trails in Grapevine. Staff are currently working on the standards and will mail them by the first of next week. B. Grapevine Heritage Festival The Board will discuss the staffing of the parks & recreation booth at the upcoming Heritage Festival scheduled for May 15"-17'.
