DIRE?J601R OF PARKS AND RECREATION CITY OF GRAPEVINE COUNTY OF TARRANT STATE OF TEXAS The City of Grapevine Parks and Recreation Board met Thursday, April 20, 2000 at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall, 200 South Main Street, Grapevine, Texas with the following members present, to wit: Hayden Smith Larry Francis Dr. Edith Pewitt Ryan Wade Absent: Staff: Julie Florence Roy Robertson Doug Evans Art Pierce Barbara Johnson Larry Atchley Dr. Curtis Ratliff Jeff Kirkhuff The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Art Pierce at 7:14 p.m. A motion was made by Dr. Edith Pewitt and seconded by Hayden Smith to approve the minutes as written of the March 16, 2000 meeting. The motion passed unanimously. Old Business The Board discussed the May 19-21 Main Street Days celebration. Ryan Wade agreed to coordinate volunteers to work the booth and to work with Barbara Johnson on the booth presentation/decoration. Larry Francis offered to help setup the booth. Doug Evans said that this item will be on the May agenda to discuss. New Business Boardmembers discussed the renewal application for the Adopt -A -Road submitted by Unity Church of Grapevine for Hughes Road. Councilmember C. Shane Wilbanks asked if the group was doing a good job of picking up litter. Motion was made by Larry Atchley and seconded by Barbara Johnson to approve the application submitted by Unity Church. The motion passed unanimously. Doug Evans presented a sample of a park identification sign to the Board. The sample is made of granite and has the Grapevine logo on it. Mr. Evans explained that for the regional parks, the signs would be approximately 6' long and 4' high. Neighborhood park signs would be smaller. Motion was made by Larry Francis and seconded by Ryan Wade to approve the construction of a sign for Parr Park. The motion passed unanimously. Miscellaneous Board Reports given: Botanical Garden at Heritage Park — Councilmember C. Shane Wilbanks informed the Board that the Council approved the bid for Phase I development at the April 18`h Council meeting. Phase I includes the development of the "Great Lawn" and some clearing of the Amphitheater. ♦ Minor Landscaping Projects — Senior Activities Center ♦ Status of Trail Grants — Soft surface trail grant for Meadowmere Park due in June. Maximum of $100,000. ♦ Senior Activities Center — Grand Opening Thursday, April 27`h ♦ Recreation Special Events — "Cast for Kids" — June 10, 2000 ♦ Trail Projects — Attorney has drafted an agreement with Memorial Baptist Church to use church property for the Big Bear Creek trail. Copies have been faxed to church officials and TXDOT officials for review. A motion was made by Dr. Edith Pewitt and seconded by Hayden Smith to adjourn. Discussion regardinq the Board's participation in the annual Main Street Days celebration scheduled for May 19-21 The Board will discuss participation in this year's celebration. Volunteers will be needed to decorate and set up the booth, coordinate volunteers for the booth and to take down the booth. VI. New Business A. Consider an agreement with Memorial Baptist Church to construct the Bear Creek Trail on church property Staff will have copies of the proposed agreement with Memorial Baptist Church at the meeting. B. Discussion regarding the development of a department promotional brochure Staff will present samples of brochures to the Board and discuss which format is preferred.
