DIRECT9R OF PARKS AND RECREATION CITY OF GRAPEVINE COUNTY OF TARRANT STATE OF TEXAS The City of Grapevine Parks and Recreation Board met Thursday, July 20, 2000 at 7:00 p.m. at the Senior Activities Center, 421 Church Street, Grapevine, Texas with the following members present, to wit: Larry Francis Barbara Johnson Hayden Smith Absent: Roy Robertson Staff: Doug Evans The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. Ryan Wade v Julie Florence Dr. Edith Pewitt Art Pierce Joe Moore Presentation of the financial and participation reports were made by Grapevine/Southlake Soccer Association, Grapevine Baseball Association, Grapevine Girls Softball Association, and Pee Wee Football Association. • Cindy Adams with the Grapevine Baseball Association gave a financial and league report. $ 95,285.84 $114,389.53 $ 26,881.54 Carryover $ 7,777.85 Balance Forward The numbers were down. Sign-ups for the next season will be July 25 — August 5" Four Scholarships were given this year. • Ted Barney with the Grapevine/Southlake Soccer Association gave a report. There were 2,500 — 2,600 players. The Association has on-line registration. Twenty-five scholarships were given last season. Total revenue $133,374.92. Challenge Select registers with GSSA. Approximately 50/50 Southlake to Grapevine players. Fields #3 & #4 were asked to be lighted. The understanding with neighborhood is that lights would not be installed. The Association wants some goals to be made portable. • Tim Guinaue, President of the Grapevine Girls Softball Association reports that the Association also wants fencing at Bear Creek Park. • Ron Holland, President, and Vernon Taylor, Treasurer, of the Grapevine Pee Wee Football Association gave a report. The Association broke even financially. Both Cheerleaders and Football practice at the same time. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday: Flag Football 5:00 pm — 6:00 pm Tackle Football 7:00 am — 12:00 pm The Association would like to keep GMS field for games. Discussion of new Board members included: • Barbara Johnson was welcomed as a renewed member. • Dr. Edith Pewitt is to move on to the Senior Advisory Council Board. • Larry Atchley and Jeff Kirkhuff went off the Board. • Dr. Curtis Ratliff moved to the Heritage Foundation Board. • David Benedetto and Stan Hinson are new Board members. • Shane Wilbanks was reappointed as Council Liaison. • Brandon Simon is to stay on as Student Liaison. The Charter states that there must be 5 — 9 members on the Board, and there was a net loss of 2 members for a total of 9 members. A correction to the minutes of the June 15 meeting was noted: Hayden Smith was the official member who called the meeting to order. With the aforementioned correction, a motion was made by Larry Francis and seconded by Barbara Johnson to approve the minutes of the June 15, 2000 meeting. The motion passed unanimously. New Business A motion was made by Barbara Johnson and seconded by Julie Florence to approve the renewal of the Adopt -A -Park agreement with the Circle T. Girl Scout Troop 4019 for Casey's Clubhouse at Dove Park. The motion passed unanimously. A motion was made by Dr. Edith Pewitt and seconded by Barbara Johnson to approve the renewal of the Adopt -A -Road agreement with the Yeager Family of Grapevine for Park Boulevard. The motion passed unanimously. Grapefest participation was discussed. Doug recommends staff to help. Ryan Wade volunteered to handle scheduling of workers for the booths. Barbara Johnson will help with the set-up. A motion was made by Larry Francis and seconded by Barbara Johnson to have a booth at Grapefest. The motion passed unanimously. A motion was made by Ryan Wade and seconded by Julie Florence to move the August meeting to August 10t' and the September meeting to September 7'" because of Grapefest. The motion passed unanimously. Miscellaneous Board Reports were given and it was suggested to modify the Name That Park contest by giving multiple choices. A motion was made by Ryan Wade and seconded by Julie Florence to adjourn.
