The City of Grapevine Parks & Recreation Advisory Board met Thursday, May 19, 2011
at 6:00 p.m. at the Bessie Mitchell Meeting Facility, 411 Ball Street, Grapevine, Texas
with the following members present, to wit:

The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m.

Citizen Comments
Michael Morris, 849 Riverside North, Grapevine, made a comment about the master
plan being approved by the City Council on May 17th
Approval of Minutes
A motion was made by Ray Harris and seconded by Roy Robertson to approve the
minutes of the April 21, 2011 meeting. Motion passed 7-0.
New Business
A motion was made by John Dalri and seconded by Lawrence Baker to approve an
Adopt -An -Area agreement with the Northeast Neighborhood Association for Katie's
Woods Drive. Motion passed 7-0.
The Board discussed the trail etiquette and safety brochure. The recommended
modifications include adding the non -emergency Police Department phone number,
adding the phrase "We encourage the use of bicycle helmets", and making the brochure
into a Z -fold with the back being the trail map so the map could be more legible. A
motion was made by Ray Harris and seconded by John Dalri to approve the trails
brochure with the modifications discussed by the Board. Motion passed 7-0.
Trail Steward Manager Travis Smith also mentioned that National Trails Day was
Saturday, June 4, 2011 and will be setting up a canopy in Parr Park from 7:00 a.m. until
10:30 a.m. and at Horseshoe Trails Park from 11:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Mr. Smith
informed the Board that this info was on the DORBA and LGRAW websites and asked if
it could be on the city's website. Mr. Smith also said that DORBA was sponsoring BBQ.
Trail brochures will be handed out and the City has purchased 200 bells for bikes.
Council Member C. Shane Wilbanks informed the Board that the City Council approved
the Parks & Recreation Master Plan on Tuesday, May 17th and that there was much
work to do now that the plan is approved.
Miscellaneous Staff Reports
• Doug Evans reported that the letting of the Grapevine Links Trail is Sept.
2011.
• Doug Evans reported that the bids have been opened for the
Meadowmere low water boat ramp and are being evaluated at this time..
• Doug Evans reported on 3 play structures at Glade Crossing Park, Glade
Landing Park and Shadow Glen Park in south Grapevine.
• Doug Evans reported that the annual triathlon will be on Saturday, June
4th. .
• Doug Evans reported on Colin Bell's visit from West Lothian, Scotland and
shadowed staff while he was here.
Miscellaneous Board Reports
Dave Buhr reported on Keep Grapevine Beautiful activities:
➢ Board positions have been filled.
➢ Volunteer opportunities are on the web site.
Ray Harris reported that the Weight Watchers 5K Walk on May 22nd and that
approximately 1,000 people have registered for the non -times walking event including
65 City of Grapevine employees.
A motion was made by Dave Buhr and seconded by Roy Robertson to adjourn. Motion
passed unanimously. Time: 6:35 p.m.

VI. New Business
A. Consider approval of an Adopt -An -Area agreement with the Cohen Famil
for the drainage area at Parr Park and with Dave Buhr, CFP, for Hall -
Johnson Road, from SH 121 to Parr Road
Copies of the report forms are attached for review. Staff recommends
approval.
B. Discuss the National Trails Day event at Parr Park and Horseshoe Trails on
Saturday. June 4, 2011
Trail Steward Manager Travis Smith will update the Board on how the event
went and suggestions on what to do for next year's event.
