DIRE R OF PARKS & RECREATION CITY OF GRAPEVINE COUNTY OF TARRANT STATE OF TEXAS The City of Grapevine Parks & Recreation Advisory Board met Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. at the Bessie Mitchell Meeting Facility, 411 Ball Street, Grapevine, Texas with the following members present, to wit: Larry Francis Roy Robertson Lawrence Baker Dave Buhr Debra Tridico Elizabeth Kaufman John Dalri Absent: Bob Tipton — submitted his resignation for the Board Ray Harris Staff: Randy Sell & Doug Evans Citizens: Paul Gray, Kevin Wilson & Dirk Dodson with R. I. S. E Adventures Lisa Stokdyk with World Airline Road Race Travis Smith, Volunteer Trail Steward Manager The meeting was called to order at 6:03 p.m. Approval of Minutes A motion was made by Elizabeth Kaufman and seconded by John Dalri to approve the minutes of the May 19, 2011 meeting. Motion passed 7-0. Presentation Staff member Randy Sell opened the presentation by giving his background in Therapeutic Recreation and his involvement with R.I.S.E. Adventures. Mr. Paul Gray informed the Board about the mission of R.I.S.E Adventures and that the organization was non-profit with no paid staff. Their funding comes from foundations and their mission to help persons with physical challenges gain independence and become productive citizens through therapeutic learning experiences. Mr. Gray showed a brief video of activities at Meadowmere Park. New Business A motion was made by John Dalri and seconded by Debra Tridico to approve Adopt -An - Area agreements with the Cohen Family for the drainage area at Parr Park and with Dave Buhr, CFP, for Hall -Johnson Road, from SH 121 to Parr Road. Motion passed 6-0 with Dave Buhr abstaining. Travis Smith, Volunteer Trail Steward Manager, informed the Board of the National Trails Day promotion on Saturday, June 4`". A tent canopy was set up along the trails in Parr Park in the morning and at Horseshoe Trails in the afternoon. Volunteers promoted trail safety and etiquette and gave away bells for bicycles and water. Mr. Smith said that the promotion was very successful and said that next year that he recommends promotional booths be set up at both places in the morning and that a large banner was needed to promote National Trails Day. Miscellaneous Staff Reports • Doug Evans reported that the letting of the Grapevine Links Trail is Sept. 2011 and that staff would be meeting in the near future with officials at the DFW Lakes Hilton to discuss the trail. • Doug Evans reported that the bids will be taken to the July 5th Council meeting for consideration. • Randy Sell mentioned upcoming swim meets at Pleasant Glade Pool and that staff was considering making a format change for the Halloween on Main Street event. • Dave Buhr gave a report on Keep Grapevine Beautiful (KGVB) activities and informed the Board of the new KGVB Board Members. Miscellaneous Board Reports John Dalri informed the Board of the history of the World Airline Road Race (WARR) and his affiliation with the race as an employee of Delta Airlines. Mr. Dalri introduced Ms. Lisa Stokdyk, this years WARR organizer who informed the Board of the upcoming race on Sunday, September 11`h at Meadowmere Park. Ms. Stokdyk informed the Board of the activities during the three day event. The host hotel is the DFW Lakes Hilton and events will be held at the Austin Ranch and Cross Timbers Winery and a train ride to Ft. Worth will be offered to participants. A motion was made by Debra Tridico and seconded by Lawrence Baker to adjourn. Motion passed unanimously. Time: 7:05 p.m. RECORDING SECRETARY — Doug Evans, Director DIRECTOR OF PARKS & RECREATION VI. New Business A. Presentation of the financial and participation reports for the Grapevine- Collevville Youth Football Association, Grapevine-Southlake Soccer Association, Grapevine Youth Wrestling and Grapevine Baseball and Softball Association The reports received by the time the agenda packets are attached. B. Discuss changing the date of the August meeting The Board will discuss changing the date of the August meeting due to conflicts..
