Shane Wilbanks (City Council) Abby Sandy (Student) Gary Humble LIAISONS Becky St. John (GCISD) Constituting a quorum with the following members of the City Staff Kevin Mitchell Director of Parks & Recreation Chris Smith Deputy Director Scott Hardeman Athletic Manager Andrea Dailey Athletic Coordinator The meeting was called to order at 6:01 p.m. A moment of silence was observed. Approval of Minutes A motion was made by Larry Francis and seconded by John Dalri to approve the July 16 18, 2015 minutes. Motion passed 7-0. Ayes — Roy Robertson, Larry Francis, John Dalri, Terry Musar, Krystyna Plut, Debra Tridico, and Dave Buhr Nays— None Absent — Ray Harris, Gary Humble Citizen Requests There were no citizen requests. New Business Scott Hardeman discussed Grapefest and the Parks and Recreation booth at the festival. Scott passed around a sign up list to help staff manage the booth and the tennis area that will be part of our exhibit. July 16, 2015 Presentations The following members of the Texas Cricket Academy were present: Vanket, Kenny, Sudharsan. The group gave a brief history of cricket and the plans for the sport to grow in Grapevine. The location of the fields will be 224 Foxfire Rd., Grapevine, TX 76092. There are approximately 3,000-4,000 cricket players in DFW area. The hope is to eventually bring large cricket tournaments to Grapevine while in the short term focusing on youth development. The group is hoping to open in March or April of 2016. Scott Hardeman introduced Andrea Dailey and Brian Blakeway (Brian was not present). Scott introduced the staff and the duties each person performs along with programs hosted by the Athletics program area and the recently held SWOT analysis. Andrea spoke about her past with the Texas Rangers and about her role with the department. PARD Informational Items (No Action Taken) The REC of Grapevine update — Kevin Mitchell reported the following: • Landscaping - trees and other landscaping will be planted by staff and contractors as areas are complete. Interior punch list is 65-70% complete. Membership is at 13,500 and growing daily. • Flood Recovery - areas are being cleaned and opened daily as the flood continues to recede. Volunteers are helping to get areas clean and will be used to help us match the FEMA 25% requirements. Sonic Grapevine recently gave a $5,000 donation which will help with the recovery from the flood. The large clean-up and restoration event will be held Saturday, September 12. GSSA will be performing a large scale clean-up at Meadowmere Soccer Complex on Saturday, August 22. • Trail Updates — Bear Creek connection is done and people are definitely using it. Links Trail continues to move forward. The construction crew is presently working on the more difficult/challenging sections and then will end with the faster/easier sections to construct. Highway 26 trail to Colleyville is going very slow along with the Wall -Farrar Nature Trail. Krystyna asked about Oak Grove Trail and bridges on the trail. Kevin reiterated that all areas on this trail survived the flood and is now fully open for usage. Miscellaneous Board Items (No Action Taken) Keep Grapevine Beautiful — Dave Buhr reported on the following: • Vacancies on the board • Lake Clean-up, September 12 GCISD Report — Becky St. John reported on the following: • School begins Monday, August 24 • Athletic facilities are up and running ready for school to begin • Committee continues looking at facilities 5-7 years down the road for upgrades and repairs that will be needed • FIRST on GCISD web page for citizens to ask a question or make comments about facility needs High School Student Report — Abby was not present 2 July 16: 2015 Adiourn Motion was made by Debra Tridico and seconded by Terry Musar to adjourn the meeting at 7:00 p.m. Motion passed 7-0.
