The City of Grapevine Parks & Recreation Advisory Board met June 18, 2015 at 6:00
p.m. in The REC of Grapevine Administration Conference Room, 1175 Municipal Way,
Grapevine, Texas with the following members present, to -wit:

The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m.
A moment of silence was observed.

Approval of Minutes
A motion was made by Ray Harris and seconded by Elizabeth Kaufman to approve the
May 21, 2015 minutes. Motion passed 7-0.

There were no citizen requests.
New Business
September Meeting
A motion was made by Larry Francis and seconded by Terry Musar to cancel the
September Meeting. Motion passed 7-0.

Presentation
Flood Update
Kevin Mitchell presented and gave the board an update on the flood. Mr. Mitchell stated
that the flood status changes constantly. Team meetings take place Mondays and
Wednesdays, as well as coordination with several departments, neighboring cities and
Army Corps of Engineers.
Mr. Mitchell also stated staff is looking for volunteers to assist with clean-up once water
starts to recede. Vineyards Campground reservations are being cancelled through end
of September. The flooding has also impacted the Adult Athletics.
Staff is working with the Chief Financial Officer and their team regarding loss and
damage due to the flooding.
Chris Smith stated staff was in discussion with Red Cross to see if The REC building
could be used as a shelter should evacuations take place.
Mr. Mitchell also stated that staff is looking at ways to change so that property can
withstand the next flood event.
PARD Informational Items (No Action Taken)
Park Maintenance — Kevin Mitchell provided update. Mr. Mitchell stated half of the
Park Maintenance staff is working at The REC on irrigation and landscaping, and the
other half are working on flood issues.
Mr. Mitchell also stated that the Grapevine Botanical Gardens won the Trip Advisor's
Excellence award.
The REC of Grapevine Construction Update — Kevin Mitchell reported the following:
• REC Sprayground will not open until fencing goes up
• Interior Building Items — 70% of the punch list items are complete. Interior plants
were delivered.
• To thank our REC members for their patience with construction, a letter went out
to members of The REC that their anniversary date moved up two months
Trail Updates — Kevin Mitchell provided an update on the trails.
Lake Parks & Events — Randy Sell reported they have been busy focusing on the
flooding issues, and as well as changes of reservations and camps due to the flooding.
Mr. Sell stated the next Fourth Friday Film would be at Parr Park.
Athletics — Scott Hardeman reported that staff had partnered with other fellow cities to
help facilitate tournaments that were cancelled at Oak Grove due to flooding. Mr.
Hardeman also stated that MLB and Rangers will be in town on August 11 through 14,
so staff was looking for a facility for that tournament.
Recreation — Chris Smith reported on the following:
• Elevate Your Fitness Experience program at The REC where members have the
opportunity to meet with our Fitness staff to train them on the strength and
cardiovascular machines in the Fitness Room. Sessions are available on
Tuesdays and Thursdays.
• REC Summer and Excursion camps
Feed our Kids program — staff served lunch last Friday to almost 300
underprivileged kids
Fall Play Grapevine Activities guide
• Outdoor pools

Keep Grapevine Beautiful — Dave Buhr reported on the following:
• July 6 meeting rescheduled to June 29
• Summer Project — redoing website
• Opening on KGVB Board
• Committee to talk about recycling, to push recycling at the festivals
GCISD Report — Becky St. John reported on the following:
• Turf at Mustang Panthers stadium
• Heritage High School Track surface
• Changes in the school district
High School Student Report - Abby Sandy reported the following:
• Summer School sessions started June 6.

Motion was made by Larry Francis and seconded by Terry Musar to adjourn the
meeting at 7:07 p.m. Motion passed 7-0.
