The City of Grapevine Parks & Recreation Advisory Board met September 18, 2014 at
6:00 p.m. at the City Manager's Conference Room, 200 South Main Street, Grapevine,
Texas with the following members present, to -wit:

The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m.
A moment of silence was observed.

A motion was made by Debra Tridico and seconded by Dave Buhr to approve the July
24, 2014 minutes. Motion passed 7-0.

Citizen Requests
Mike Morris thanked the Parks & Recreation department for their work at the booth at
GrapeFest and in general support of the festival.
Travis Smith announced Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day is on October 4, from 9 am to
1 pm at Horseshoe Trails.
Kevin Mitchell introduced Abby Sandy and Skyler Simon, Student Liaison Applicants,
who were in attendance.
Presentation —'My Grapevine' City App
Tony Steele presented and demonstrated how the 'My Grapevine' City App works. Mr.
Steele stated that this application allowed citizens to report problems such as graffiti,
overflowing trash, and much more. The 'My Grapevine' City App is available on the
'App Store' for iPhone users and 'Google Play' for Android users.
New Business
A motion was made by Dave Buhr and seconded by Ray Harris to move the October 16
meeting to October 23.
PARD Informational Items (No Action Taken)
Athletics — Chris Smith provided an update on the Parks & Recreation Department
(PARD) booth at GrapeFest and stated PARD will have a booth at future Main Street
Days and GrapeFest festivals. Mr. Smith also provided an update on the Tennis
Classic at GrapeFest which was teamed with Adolfson & Peterson. Mr. Smith also
stated that Parks & Recreation staff have taken over the Oak Grove Ballfield
Concession stand from the Grapevine Baseball Softball Association who previously
staffed the concession stand.
Park Maintenance — Tony Steele provided an update on the Meadowmere Park
restroom, Lakeview Park Pavilion and on the Botanical Garden Fountain. Mr. Steele
stated the Dove Park North Pavilion was completed.
Community Activities Center Update — Kevin Mitchell distributed photos of the
construction and provided an update.
Trail Updates — Kevin Mitchell stated there is no start date yet for the Bear Creek
Extension, however once started, it would be a quick project. The Links Trail has
stopped due to the contractor abandoning the job. TxDOT is working on getting another
contractor.
Upcoming Recreation Events — Chris Smith reported the Pool Season has wrapped
up. Roy Robertson commented that he was impressed with the life-saving efforts of the
Aquatics Staff who saved the young boy. Mr. Smith stated that all staff and contractors
will be trained in First Aid, CPR and AED.
Lake Parks — Randy Sell reported the following:
• Sunset Concert Series is the first three Saturdays in October.
• Halloween event will be at Meadowmere Park on October 24 and 25, and will
consist of GrapeYard, Aftermath (Zombie Experience) and a Zombie Escape 5K.
• Although lake levels are low, the revenue numbers still look good.
• RISE Adaptive Sports had 1600 participants.
Ray Harris announced that the Walk to End Alzheimer's event is on October 11, at 7:30
am at Meadowmere Park.
Miscellaneous Board Items (No Action Taken)
• Keep Grapevine Beautiful — Dave Buhr reported the following:
o Next meeting is October 6, at 7 pm.
o Trash & Treasures event had over 100 volunteers and covered several
areas to include Katie's Woods, Sand Bass, near Trawick Pavilion and
parts of McPherson Slough). Board Member Buhr also thanked REI for
the 10,000 grant which will go towards Katie's Woods soft surface.
o November 8 is America's Recycle Day
o North Texas Giving Day donate money to benefit KGVB.
• GCISD Report— Becky St. John reported on the following:
o Grapevine HS Homecoming Parade is October 2
o Football game is October 3
o Expressed concern over the poor condition of GCISD Turf fields due to
usage and the need to replace them.

Motion was made by Debra Tridico and seconded by Terry Musar to adjourn the
meeting at 7:07 p.m. Motion passed 7-0.
