The African Grey Parrot, also known as the Grey Parrot, is a parrot found in the primary
and secondary rainforest of West and Central Africa. Experts regard it as one of the
most intelligent birds in the world. They feed primarily on palm nuts, seeds, fruits, and
leafy matter.
African Grey Parrots are beautiful, intelligent parrots that make a wonderful addition to
anyone who fully understands their capabilities and provides them with a stimulating,
interactive environment. Building a relationship takes lots of love, time and patience. The
lifespan of an African Grey Parrot is up to 60 years.
The Grapevine Animal Shelter's African Grey Parrot name is Brittney. The bird has been
at the shelter for more than 5 years and the estimated value of the bird is $750.00 to
$1,000.00. This bird needs a stimulating and interactive environment to thrive.
Our goal is to donate Brittney to a school in the immediate area of Grapevine to offer
educational opportunities to area students and citizens. Grapevine High School was
contacted due to their excellent reputation in their Ecology Center and Science
Department. They advised they did not have available resources to care and house
Brittney. They declined the donation.
Dawson Middle School was contacted for their Animal Caretakers Program. David
Allision is an Exploratory Science Teacher over the program for Dawson Middle School
and the coordinator of the Southlake Summer Safari Camp. He stated they would accept
the donation for the Dawson Middle School (DMS) Animal Caretakers program and the
Summer Safari camp. The DMS Animal Caretakers program and summer camp offer
