SUBJECT: APPROVAL • A RESOLUTION FOR THE EMERGENCY

City Council consider adopting a resolution authorizing and ratifying the emergency
purchase of repair services for the high service #3 pump at the water treatment plant
that was made from Pierce Pump Company.

Funding for this purchase is currently available in account 200-43360-534-0 (Utility
Fund/ PCMF) in the amount not to exceed $15,565.06.
Water Treatment Plant high service pump #3 experienced a motor failure at the water
treatment plant which supplies potable water to the distribution system. Both pump and
motor components of the unit were pulled for inspection and evaluated for repairs. Upon
inspection and examination, the pump showed no major issues and will only require
replacement of the normal wear and tear replacement parts. Since it is a system
component, it has to be repaired at the same time as the motor therefore deeming it as
an emergency purchase. The rebuild of the high service pump #3 is required as soon as
possible to bring the pump back to within design specifications and provide continued
reliable delivery of treated water into the distribution system.
Pierce Pump Company is a recommended manufacturer's repair center and was
contacted for teardown, inspection and repair of the pump.
An emergency purchase order had been issued to Pierce Pump Company for this
service repair on July 24, 2013 for the water treatment plant.
Staff recommends approval.
