FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER
MEETING DATE: FEBRUARY 21, 2023
SUBJECT: PURCHASE OF A NEW VALVE TRUCK SERVICE BODY
RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider approval for the purchase of a new valve truck
service body and vacuum skid from Illinois Tool Works for the Public
Works Department.
FUNDING SOURCE: Funds are available in the Utility Enterprise Fund for a total amount not to
exceed $140,570.
BACKGROUND: This purchase is for one valve truck service body and vacuum skid to be
up -fitted onto an F550 truck chassis for the use in the Utility Division. The
2023 Ford F550 4X4 extended cab/chassis was approved for purchase
from Silsbee Ford, Inc. at the February 7, 2023 meeting in the amount of
$67,085. There are over 8,000 water valves in the City and staff
endeavors to exercise each valve every two years. An automated motor
system will allow for the valves to be operated with motorized equipment
rather than a two man crew using a manual valve key.
This purchase will be made in accordance with an existing interlocal
agreement with the Local Government Purchasing Cooperative
(BuyBoard) as allowed by Texas Local Government Code, Section 271
and Texas Government Code, Chapter 791.
Bids were taken by the Cooperative and a contract was awarded to Illinois
Tool Works. The Public Works and Purchasing staff reviewed the contract
for departmental specification compliance and pricing and determined that
the contract would provide the best service and pricing for meeting the
needs of the City.
