HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 27 - Vactor TruckMEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER
MEETING DATE: MAY 16, 2023
SUBJECT: PURCHASE OF A 2100i VACTOR TRUCK
RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider approval for the purchase of a 2100i Vactor truck
from Doggett Freightliner of Austin for the Public Works Department.
FUNDING SOURCE: Funds are available in the Enterprise Utility Fund for a total amount not to
exceed $561,765.
BACKGROUND: This purchase is for one 2023 Vactor 2100i Hydro excavation truck
replacing unit #31402 for the Utility Department used in the cleaning and
maintenance of sanitary sewer lines and hydro excavating near
underground utilities. This vehicle is slated to be replaced in the FY 2024
operating budget. However, delivery of heavy vehicles (F450, F550, Dump
Trucks and similar) are taking 12-18 months. As such, staff is proposing to
advance enterprise funded vehicles prior to consideration of the FY 2024
budget since funds have been identified in the current year operating
budget.
This purchase will be made in accordance with an existing interlocal
agreement with the Region VIII Education Service Center known as The
Interlocal Purchasing System (TIPS) in Texas as allowed by Texas Local
Government Code, Chapter 271 and Texas Government Code, Chapter
791.
Bids were taken by the cooperative and contracts were awarded to
Doggett Freightliner of Austin. The Public Works Department, Fleet
Services and Purchasing staff reviewed the contract for departmental
specification compliance and pricing and determined that the contract
would provide the best product and pricing for meeting the needs of the
City.
Staff recommends approval.
