HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 12 - Thermal Imaging Cameras MEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER
MEETING DATE: JUNE 6, 2023
SUBJECT: PURCHASE OF THERMAL IMAGING CAMERAS FOR THE FIRE
DEPARTMENT
RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider approval for the purchase of thermal imaging
cameras with Metro Fire Apparatus for the Fire Department.
FUNDING SOURCE: Funds are available in the Capital Equipment Purchase Fund for an
amount not to exceed $83,046.
BACKGROUND: This purchase is to replace all of the thermal imaging cameras on the Fire
Department's front-line apparatus. These cameras allow the firefighters to
see through the smoke, locate heat sources, and find people during
response operations. The current cameras have been discontinued and
finding parts to repair damaged cameras is becoming extremely difficult.
We have requested and received funding to upgrade and replace the
cameras with current models with better optics and can be supported.
This purchase will be made in accordance with an existing interlocal
agreement with The Local Government Purchasing Cooperative (Buy
Board) as allowed by Texas Local Government Code, Chapter 271 and
Texas Government Code, Chapter 791.
Bids were taken by the cooperative and contracts were awarded to Metro
Fire Apparatus. The Fire Department and Purchasing staff reviewed the
contract for departmental specification compliance and pricing and
determined that the contract would provide the best product and pricing
for meeting the needs of the City.
Staff recommends approval.
