HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 13 - Fire Equipment MEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER MEETING DATE: JUNE 6, 2023 SUBJECT: PAYMENT FOR INSTALLATION OF EQUIPMENT FOR THE FIRE DEPARTMENT RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider the approval of payment for installation of equipment from Gulf Highway Equipment for the Fire Department. FUNDING SOURCE: Funds are available in the Grant Fund and the General Fund (Fire Department) for an amount not to exceed $44,873. BACKGROUND: This purchase is to enhance the capabilities of the Fire Department's blocking unit. This unit responds to incidents that require traffic to be diverted or blocked to protect personnel working on the roadway and to protect frontline apparatus. The enhancement was to add a Scorpion II truck mounted attenuator that allows the unit to absorb an impact and provide a degree of safety for the person hitting the blocking unit. This addition also provides side-angle impact protection, increasing the area that the blocking unit will be able to protect. The City is funding $12,228 of the $44,873 total, the rest is being funded through grants. Staff recommends approval. SG/LW
