SUBJECT: PURCHASE OF KENNEL COVERS FOR ANIMAL SERVICES FACILITY
RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider approval for the purchase of kennel covers from
Tri Star Metals for the Animal Services Facility.
FUNDING SOURCE: Funds are available in the General Fund (Police Department) for a total
amount not to exceed $17,998.
BACKGROUND: Tristar Metals is the sole quote requested and received for the dog kennel
covers that are needed at Animal Services. The dog kennel covers were
installed during construction on approximately half of the current kennels.
The kennel covers are an installed metal fixture that covers the kennel
and prevents dogs from climbing over and out the top of the kennel.
During construction of the new Grapevine Animal Services building in
2019, Tristar Metals was awarded the construction project and installed
custom designed dog kennels at Animal Services. The currently
requested and quoted items to be installed were removed from the
original construction design and process for budgeting purposes. Tristar
Metals is in possession of the knowledge, materials, measurements, and
sizing information that allows the additions to match currently installed
fixtures. Any work by another company could invalidate the product
warranty that is in place on the current kennels.
This procurement will be made as a sole source in accordance with Local
Government Code Chapter 252, Subchapter B, § 252.022. General
Exemptions (a)(7)(A).
Staff recommends approval.
