SUBJECT: PURCHASE OF REPLACEMENT SOD FOR BEAR CREEK PARK
BALLFIELDS
RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider approval for the purchase of sod for restoration at
Bear Creek Park ballfields from King Ranch Turfgrass for the Parks and
Recreation Department.
FUNDING SOURCE: Funds are available in the Surface Restoration budget (100-48850-312-
003) for an amount not to exceed $16,200.
BACKGROUND: This is for the purchase of replacement sod for the Bear Creek Park
ballfields. Outlined in the interlocal agreement between The City of
Grapevine and the Trinity River Authority (TRA), it is The City's
responsibility to restore the fields following the construction by the TRA.
The replacement sod is essential to ensure the full restoration of the
ballfields, allowing them to be brought back to their original condition.
In 2021, the Trinity River Authority and the City entered into an Interlocal
Agreement whereas the TRA and City agree that it is in their mutual
interest for the City to complete the surface restoration of Bear Creek
Athletic Park, Wall-Farrar Nature Trail, and Parr Park. It is also agreed that
compensation be paid to the City for surface restoration and tree
mitigation. The amount of $378,624.63 has been set aside for surface
restoration to include re-sodding the outfields of the Bear Creek Park
ballfields.
Bids were taken and were awarded to King Ranch Turfgrass. The Parks
and Recreation Department and Purchasing staff reviewed the quotes for
departmental specification compliance and pricing and determined that
the contract would provide the best product and pricing for meeting the
needs of the City.
Staff recommends approval.
