HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 03 - Citizen Comments6-1-2023 My name is Connie Mundell, and I live on Silverlake Dr. I've lived in this neighborhood since 2001. I'm very happy to call Grapevine my home, and have enjoyed the many benefits that this city has to offer. I've seen the city grow, and for the most part feel like the growth has been handled well by city leaders. But a subject that Id like more attention paid to is the lack of accessibility to some of these benefits. I used to enjoy riding my bike around town, however the increased traffic made it increasingly risky for a casual cyclist. I was happy to watch the build of the Cotton Belt Trail and looked forward to utilizing it! However I quickly realized that I still had to transverse the same crowded streets to get to it. Riding a bike on Ruth Wall/Texan Trail is, to say the least, an adventure. The same goes for trying to ride to Horseshoe Trails during weekdays. It's a bit frustrating to be a neighborhood that seems to be close to everything the city has to offer, and still be cut off from so much. Driving my car to take my bike to the trail kind of defeats the purpose. It's a risk that I'm not willing to take any longer. I no longer ride my bike, it just became too much stress. I wish the city would consider doing more with creating a fully bike friendly environment, through signage and driver education. There's a lot of casual bike riders that would benefit from more attention being given to this issue. Thank you for your time and consideration... nie Mundell RN City of Grapevine Leadership 200 S. Main St. Grapevine, TX 76051 June 4, 2023 Dear Mayor & City Council Members, I have lived in the same house in Grapevine since 1976 and love this town and neighborhood. I have seen many changes and improvements that I have greatly appreciated in my time here. I would respectfully like to suggest a few more. I live in one of the older neighborhoods by the lake. I have walked and continue to walk daily (most days, twice a day) in my neighborhood. In the last several years it seems that traffic and speeds have grown exponentially. I understand that construction will start soon on the dangerous corner of Lakeridge and Kimball. I am hoping it will include connecting the Shane Wilbanks trail at Snakey lane, North to our neighborhood. Lots of people walk and bike ride between the trail and Lakeview Park, through our neighborhood. I would love to have a safe way to do that, too. As a 90-year-old resident it is difficult to get myself and my walker out of the path of speeding cars. We have no sidewalks or even flat yards I can get to. Our uneven streets are bordered by deep ditches, crumbling pavement, no curbs and no sidewalks, making walking dangerous. This problem gets even worse as hundreds of cars stream into Lakeview park every weekend during the summer. By the way, these are all problems for everyone who walks in this neighborhood -young and old alike. I would appreciate the city finding a solution so I and my neighbors can walk safely and comfortably in our neighborhood. Warm Regards, Charlene Perry 2104 Ridge Lane Grapevine, TX 76051
