FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER
MEETING DATE: AUGUST 1, 2023
SUBJECT: FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEM AT ICE HOUSE MUSEUM
RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider approval for the installation of a fire suppression
system at the Grapevine Historical Society Ice House Museum from Metro
Fire Protection Incorporated.
FUNDING SOURCE: Funds are available in the CVB Fund for a total amount not to exceed
$41,850.
BACKGROUND: The Ice House building, which was renovated in 2014, is the home of the
Grapevine Historical Museum. The museum, located at 206 West
Hudgins, contains thousands of local artifacts including dinosaur
footprints, pioneer tools, household items, toys, uniforms, wedding gowns,
a Mayor Tate exhibit and a "Grapevine attic" of interesting treasures. The
attic includes artifacts from the entire historic Grapevine community.
To ensure the preservation and protection of these local historical
artifacts, staff received three proposals for the installation of a fire
suppression system, and Metro Fire Protection provided the most
responsive bid. In coordination with the City of Grapevine Fire
Department, Metro Fire will provide and install a 2.5" pre -action fire
sprinkler system that will cover all the displays and artifacts in the
museum. Metro Fire Protection was established in 1978 and has
performed fire systems services at various locations for the City of
Grapevine.
Below is a summary of the proposals that were received and reviewed for
this project.
Metro Fire Protection, Inc. - $41,850
Firetrol Protection Systems - $52,200
Emergency Fire Protection Systems - $53,290
