HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 17 - SCBA EquipmentMEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER
MEETING DATE: SEPTEMBER 5, 2023
SUBJECT: PURCHASE OF SCBA FIRE EQUIPMENT
RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider approval for the purchase of Self -Contained
Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) fire equipment from Casco Industries, Inc.
for the Fire Department.
FUNDING SOURCE: Funds are available in the Capital Equipment Purchase Fund for an
amount not to exceed $63,239.
BACKGROUND: This purchase request is for the purchase of additional Self -Contained
Breathing Apparatus (SCBA). Self -Contained Breathing Apparatus
(SCBA) is an essential piece of protective equipment for the world that
firefighters operate in. For firefighters to be able to enter the IDLH
atmospheres of an incident, firefighters have to wear SCBA's to protect
them in these hostile environments. Currently the department has few
tactical reserve SCBA's for training, deployments, loaners, and if we need
to put an additional company in service for some unforeseen reason.
Therefore, six additional SCBA's would increase our efficiency and allow
all members on fire apparatus and essential staff to have a SCBA for
emergency response and have reserves in case of failure.
This purchase will be made in accordance with an existing interlocal
agreement with The Local Government Purchasing Cooperative (Buy
Board) as allowed by Texas Local Government Code, Chapter 271 and
Texas Government Code, Chapter 791.
Bids were taken by the cooperative and contracts were awarded to Casco
Industries, Inc. The Fire Department and Purchasing staff reviewed the
contract for departmental specification compliance and pricing and
determined that the contract would provide the best product and pricing
for meeting the needs of the City.
