SUBJECT: NEW MOTOR CONTROL CENTER AND VARIABLE FREQUENCY
DRIVES FOR HIGH SERVICE PUMPS
RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider approval for the purchase of new Motor Control
Center and Variable Frequency Drives for high service pumps for the
Water Treatment Plant from Graybar for the Public Works Department.
FUNDING SOURCE: Funds are available in the Utility Enterprise Fund for an amount not to
exceed $267,900.
BACKGROUND: This purchase is to replace the existing Motor Control Center (MCC) and
to add Variable Frequency Drives (VFD) on two of our largest pumps This
improvement will allow the water plant to utilize multiple distribution
pumps in an emergency to maintain our distribution system pressure to
meet water demand.
This purchase will be made in accordance with existing and interlocal
agreements with Omnia Partners Public Sector, Region VIII Education
Service Center in Texas as allowed by Texas Local Government Code,
Section 271 and Texas Government Code, Section 791.
Bids were taken by the Cooperative and a contract was awarded to
Graybar. The Public Works and Purchasing staff reviewed the contract for
departmental specification compliance and pricing and determined that
the contract would provide the best service and pricing for meeting the
needs of the City.
Staff recommends approval
