I. Call to Order

Ill. Citizen Comments
Any person who is not scheduled on the agenda may address the Senior Citizen
Advisory Board under Citizen Comments or on any other agenda item by
completing a Citizen Appearance Request form with the staff. A member of the
public may address the Senior Citizen Advisory Board regarding an item on the
agenda either before or during the Board's consideration of the item, upon being
recognized by the Chairman or upon the consent of the Senior Citizen Advisory
Board in accordance with the Texas Open Meetings Act, the Senior Citizen
Advisory Board is restricted in discussing or taking action during Citizen
Comments.
IV. Approve minutes from the July 11, 2023 meeting.

The City of Grapevine Parks & Recreation Senior Citizens Advisory Board met October
3, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. in The REC of Grapevine, 1175 Municipal Way, Grapevine, Texas
with the following members present, to-wit:

Roger Jones called the meeting to order at 1:OOpm.
An invocation was led by Roger Jones.
Citizen Comments:
None
Approval of Minutes:
A motion was made to approve the July 11, 2023 minutes.

Presentations:
Megan Varner provided an update on Active Adults. Updates included a'summer recap,
upcoming field trips, lunch programs, the Senior Choir, Veteran's Day plans, Christmas
celebrations, Halloween, and the Grape Affair newsletter.
Blake Benavides presented on events for the Christmas season on Main Street, which
included Carol of Lights, Merry and Bright Drone Shows, and volunteer opportunities.
Miscellaneous:
Carey Miller provided a recap of the 13th Annual Empowering Seniors Expo.
Duff O'Dell provided a City Council update, which included a Nash Farm events,
Butterfly Flutterby, National Night Out participating neighborhoods (32 total), GrapeFest
recap, Sister City addition of Barossa Valley and the group's recent visit.
Teri Rhodes-Cantu reported beginning on November 1, 2023, the Housing Authority will
begin taking applications for studio and one-bedroom apartments,with Grapevine
residents receiving first consideration.
Christine Szymaszek provided a GRACE update, which included the United Way Beat
the HeatAC program, senior monthly commodities, the food pantry and senior
transportation assistance.
Isabelle Boyd provided an Active Adult Laison update, which included a requestfor
chair replacement in Stewart Hall. Chris Smith informed board that chair replacement is
in progress.
Chris Smith provided an update on Parks & Recreation, which included a highlight of
recentand upcoming events including Sunset Live, PumpkinFest, Ship REC'ed,
Celebra, and the Lake Grapevine Runner and Walkers double Trouble 5k and 15k race.
Additionally,Chris invited the SeniorAdvisopry Board to attend the upcoming Parks and
Recreation Advisory Board meeting for a special presentation of The REC Performance
Utilization Analysis by Barker, Rinker, Seacat.
Meeting Date Change:
Roger Jones noted the January board meeting date of Tuesday, January 2 may pose
an issue for quorum given that many board members and liaisons may have plans for
New Years and the holidays.A discussion ensued.
A motion was made to change the date of the Senior Advisory Board meeting on
Tuesday, January 2 move to Tuesday, January 9 to accommodate the New Year and
holiday schedules.
