1979, with the following members present to -wit:

Tom Walker

Kevin Conklin, Director of Parks and Recreation
The following representatives from various sports associations
were also present:

Women's Tennis: Kathy Pirkle, Arlene Dickerson
The meeting was called to order by Ron Armstrong.
The invocation was given by Neal Odle.
A motion was made by Neal Odle and seconded by Tom Walker that
the minutes be approved as written. The minutes were approved.
Under Old Business, there was a discussion with local youth
sport officials regarding seasons and scheduling. The seasons
for the fall sports, soccer and pee wee football, are the same
as what was discussed and established earlier in the year.
However, there could be a possible overlapping of 1980 spring
seasons, with soccer beginning March 15 and ending May 15, and
Little League beginning May 8 and ending by July 4th. It was
suggested that a meeting be scheduled by Kevin to arrive at a
solution to the problem.
Kevin expressed his appreciation to Mr. and Mrs. Buddy Hall for
their donation of a blood pressure tester to the Senior Citizens,
Under New Business, Kathy Pirkle and Arlene Dickerson, representing
the Grapevine Women's Doubles Tennis Association, were present to
answer questions pertaining to the newly -formed organization. The
Association, which would be co-sponsored by the City, requested the
use of the Dove Park Tennis Courts for a doubles league on Wednesday
and Thursday mornings, from 9:00 A.M. to 12:00 noon. There will be
sixteen women participating each day, for a total of 32 people. the
league would be held during the fall, spring, and summer seasons,
and would be for those women who either live or work full-time in
Grapevine. Kevin mentioned that the live -work rule should be
adopted because of the limited number of participants that can
play - 32. A motion was made by Buddy Hall and seconded by Jim
Swinney that we allow the league to reserve tennis courts as they
have requested. The motion was passed unanimously.
Under departmental reports, Kevin stated that Pickering Park was
about 50% complete. Major gradework is being done almost every
day at the park.
The swimming pool program has gone over quite well, and staff
permitting, will be open until September 4th.
Richard Stasney resigned his position as Superintendent of
Recreation, and Lynne Joubert will take his place.
The Middle School Project was discussed. It was mentioned
that there would have to be barricades set up over the trench
work. We hope to begin work on the park soon.
The department had recently experienced several cases of
vandalism. Picnic tables, grills, and timers have been
damaged, destroyed, or removed.
The Fall Festival is scheduled for Saturday, September 29.
There being no further business, a motion was made by Buddy
Hall and seconded by Tom Walker to adjourn. The motion passed
unanimously. The meeting was adjourned.
