The City of Grapevine Parks and Recreation Board convened in
regular meeting at 7:30 p.m. on this the 9th. day of
August, 1984, with the following members present to -wit:
Mike McKinney
Scott Brown
perry Brown
Bobby Nery
Bill Martin
Julian Dyke
Janice Kirkland
Kevin Conklin of the City Staff was present, as were various
members of Youth Sports Boards representing soccer, baseball
and five pitch, and football.
Mike McKinney called the meeting to order, and Julian Dyke
give the invocation.
The Minutes of June 7, 1984 were approved unanimously.
The reports and summaries from youth sports are as follows:
BASEBALL -FIVE PITCH: this year baseball and five
pitch were combined into one association, which was
the Grapevine Baseball Association; the baseball
teams played with the Bear Creek Association, which
was made up of teams from Southlake, Colleyville,
Trophy Club, and Coppell; baseball had 165
participants, while five -pitch had 150; baseball is
scheduled to begin in mid-April of 1985.
SOCCER: the D/FW Soccer Association consisted of
780 players for the Spring 1984 season; they expect
to begin their fall 1984 season on September 8 and
finish November 17; 600 to 700 participants are
expected this fall; in July of this year soccer
sponsored a techniques clinic and had 97
participants.
PEE WEE FOOTBALL: for the fall season of 1983
football had 5 teams, with 120 players signed up;
the 1984 season is scheduled to begin September 15,
with practices beginning September 4; they expect
to have 130 players and 40 cheerleaders; Kevin
recommended that football use the 2 new irrigated
fields at Parr Park for practices - the board
members said that they would visit the park and
decide whether or not to use them.
Under Action Items, the Board discussed a name for the park
in the Woods Subdivision. Julian Dyke motioned and Jerry
Brown seconded to name the park after Mr. C. J. Hutchins,
a longtime resident who is deceased. The motion was
unanimously approved.
The next meeting will be September 27, 1984.
There being no further business, a motion to adjourn was
made by Scott Brown, and seconded by Jerry Brown. All
present voted aye. The meeting was adjourned.
