1969, THE PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD AGENDA WAS PREPARED AND

The City of Grapevine Parks and Recreation Board convened in regular
meeting at 7:30 p.m. on this the 24th. day of January, 1985, with
the following members present to -wit:
John Levitt
Penny Bigbie
Scott Brown
Julian Dyke
Bobby Nery
Bill Martin
Sue Burgtorf
Jerry Brown
Mike McKinney
Kevin Conklin and Mark Mailes of the City Staff were present, as were
various members of Youth Sports Boards representing soccer, baseball
and five pitch, and football.
Mike McKinney called the meeting to order, and Kevin gave the
invocation.
The Minutes of January 10, 1985 were approved with the following
correction: "There will be no meeting in February, due to having two
meetings in January".
Under Citizens Requests and Miscellaneous Report, Janice Kirkland was
not present to accept her plaque of appreciation.
Under Discussion Items, the following are reports and summaries from
Youth Sports:
SOCCER: the D/FW Soccer Association consisted of 550 players and 38
teams in the fall of 1984; they expect to have 750 players
and 48 teams in the spring of 1985; February 11 will be
their first practice, and February 23 or March 2 will be
the date of the first games; the spring season is scheduled
to end May 18; during the week of June 17 there will be a
soccer clinic instructed by Bobby Moffatt.
BASEBALL: the Grapevine Baseball Association had 14 five pitch
teams in their 1984 season, and 12 baseball teams with a
total of 315 participants; their 1985 season will begin
with practices starting March 18, and games starting on
April 9 or 16; the season is scheduled to end the last week
of June.
FOOTBALL: during the 1984 season, Grapevine Pee Wee Football had 5
teams with 120 participants; for 1985, they expect to have
6 to 7 teams with 150-170 participants; practices begin
after Labor Day, and games will be starting on September
21.
Kevin discussed with Soccer the problems the City has experienced with
the Dove Park Tennis Courts and the surfaces of the courts, and how
they felt about transferring the designated $25,000 for additional
fields in this year's budget to used the funds for resurfacing the
courts. Soccer had no problems with doing this, but requested the
funding be available next year.
Under Action Items, the Board reviewed the draft of the latest
(January 12, 1985) open space requirements. Julian Dyke motioned and
John Levitt seconded that Kevin meet with Mike McKinney to draft the
appropriate language of a position statement to be given to the
Planning and Zoning Commission and City Council. The motion passed.
The next meeting of the Board will be March 28, 1985.
There being no further business, a motion to adjourn was made by John
Levitt, and seconded by Bill Martin. All present voted aye. The
meeting was adjourned.
