The City of Grapevine Parks and Recreation Board convened in regular
meeting at 7:30 p.m. on this the 20th. day of November, 1986, with
the following members present to -wit:
Julian Dyke
Craig Martin
Bill Martin
Sherry Blackshear
City Staff
Alex McKee
Mike Conroy
Shane Wilbanks
Kevin Conklin John MacDonald
Mark Mailes
The meeting was called to order by Kevin Conklin. The invocation was
given by Julian Dyke.
Motion by Alex McKee, seconded by Mike Conroy to accept minutes of
September 25, 1986.
Under Miscellaneous reports, there was discussion on developer Joe
Wright's $280,500 cash donation in lieu of provision of open space
land as per the City's Open Space Ordinance relative to the Winding
Creek Subdivision.
The Open Space Committee has made the following recommendations for
consideration of the proposed use of the $280,500:
1. Dove Park - Rebuild swimming pool restrooms and bath house;
2. Dove Park Pool - Change chlorine system at pool;
3. Build a larger playground at Dove Park.
These recommendations are on hold pending a better cost estimate.
There will also be further discussion on a plan to use some of the
funds to light soccer fields at Oak Grove Park.
Julian Dyke, representing the Hospital Board, stated that the current
and future building plans of the hospital do not include any
additional land use. Fifteen (15) acres of land will be offered to
the City in late 1987, for potential use as athletic fields. Kevin
Conklin will deal with Executive Director of the hospital, Art
Hohenberger.
There is $50,000 available to spend on .88 acre Glade -Landing Park.
band preparation is presently underway. Park to be completed towards
the end of 1987.
The Recreation program update was given by John MacDonald:
-Adult Softball completed October 29, 1986
-Adult Basketball registration being completed, practices underway
-Youth soccer and football completing their seasons
-Youth basketball registration begins on December 1 and continues
through December 19, 1986
-A Co -Ed Volleyball league will be offered, with play beginning in
January
--Christmas parade will be Thursday, December 4, 1986 at 7:30 p.m.,
with Santa Claus visiting Town Square beginning on December 5, 1986
Julian Dyke offered to assist in making arrangements to use the New
Life Center at First Methodist Church for recreation programs.
