DAY OF JANUARY, 1987. r DIRECTOR OF PARKS AND RECREATION CITY OF GRAPEVINE >> COUNTY OF TARRANT >> STATE OF TEXAS >> The City of Grapevine Parks and Recreation Board convened in regular meeting at 7:30 p.m. on this the 15th. day of January, 1987, with the following members present to -wit: Bobby Wise Alex McKee Margaret Telford Sue Burgtorf City Staff: Bill Martin Bobby Nery Julian Dyke Kevin Conklin Mark Mailes John MacDonald Representing Baseball were Terry Wade, President and Carol George, Secretary. Representing Soccer were Billy Lakey, President and Carol Browning, Secretary. Representing Pee Wee Football were Dennis McGrath, President and Steve Wall, 1st. Vice President. The invocation was given by Julian Dyke. Alex McKee motioned and Margaret Telford seconded to accept minutes of November 20, 1986. It was duly noted by Mark Mailes that the Parks, and Recreation Department would no longer be able to print large numbers of flyers for the various youth sports association. Release forms and quantities of flyers of less than 300 could be done, however. With the transfer of the City Council to the Police Building, the only place available for registration for youth sports would be the Civic Center. The reports and discussion by the Youth Sports Boards were as follows: 1. BASEBALL - There were a total of 3 Pony, 5 Bronco and 6 Mustang/Colt teams last season. There 12 5 -Pitch teams. A total of 310 children participated in baseball last year. Practice will begin in Mid -March with the season beginning on April 6, 1987. Sign-ups for coaches will be on February 7, 1987 and for players on February 14, 21 and 27th. Baseball will run the softball concession stand this spring. 2. SOCCER - There were 39 teams playing last Fall Season 1986 and 45 projected for Sping 1987. Sign-ups will occur on January 31, February 5, and February 7, 1987. The season will run from February 28, 1987 through May 25, 1987. D/FW may host part of a tournament this season. 3. FOOTBALL - There were 6 teams from Grapevine last season, 1 Bantam, 2 Junior and 3 Senior teams. Grapevine teams won 2 out of 3 championships. The Association wishes to host a playoff game in the Fall of 1987. Football may adjust by-laws before next season, to initiate a minimum -playing -time policy. John MacDonald offered information on the National Youth Sports Coaches Association Training Clinics. We will consider offering clinics to certify youth coaches. Some cities have passed resolutions requiring Youth Sport Associations' Coaches to attend clinics in order to be co-sponsored. Grapevine will consider this. Under Miscellaneous Reports Kevin Conklin spoke about Capital Improvement Projects being considered and gave a presentation on design considerations. The next meeting was scheduled for February 19, 1987. There being no further business, a motion to adjourn was made by Bobby Nery and seconded by Alex McKee. All present voted aye.
