The invocation was given by Julian Dyke.
Alex McKee motioned and Margaret Telford seconded to accept minutes of
November 20, 1986.
It was duly noted by Mark Mailes that the Parks, and Recreation
Department would no longer be able to print large numbers of flyers
for the various youth sports association. Release forms and
quantities of flyers of less than 300 could be done, however.
With the transfer of the City Council to the Police Building, the only
place available for registration for youth sports would be the Civic
Center.
The reports and discussion by the Youth Sports Boards were as follows:
1. BASEBALL - There were a total of 3 Pony, 5 Bronco and 6
Mustang/Colt teams last season. There 12 5 -Pitch teams. A total
of 310 children participated in baseball last year. Practice will
begin in Mid -March with the season beginning on April 6, 1987.
Sign-ups for coaches will be on February 7, 1987 and for players
on February 14, 21 and 27th. Baseball will run the softball
concession stand this spring.
2. SOCCER - There were 39 teams playing last Fall Season 1986 and 45
projected for Sping 1987. Sign-ups will occur on January 31,
February 5, and February 7, 1987. The season will run from
February 28, 1987 through May 25, 1987. D/FW may host part of a
tournament this season.
3. FOOTBALL - There were 6 teams from Grapevine last season, 1
Bantam, 2 Junior and 3 Senior teams. Grapevine teams won 2 out of
3 championships. The Association wishes to host a playoff game in
the Fall of 1987. Football may adjust by-laws before next season,
to initiate a minimum -playing -time policy.
John MacDonald offered information on the National Youth Sports
Coaches Association Training Clinics. We will consider offering
clinics to certify youth coaches. Some cities have passed resolutions
requiring Youth Sport Associations' Coaches to attend clinics in order
to be co-sponsored. Grapevine will consider this.
Under Miscellaneous Reports Kevin Conklin spoke about Capital
Improvement Projects being considered and gave a presentation on
design considerations.
The next meeting was scheduled for February 19, 1987.
There being no further business, a motion to adjourn was made by Bobby
Nery and seconded by Alex McKee. All present voted aye. The meeting
was adjourned.
