Board to meet with YMCA Board regarding Indoor Recreational Facilities in Grapevine VI. ACTION ITEMS A. Board to elect officers for 1987-88 B. Board to consider a recommendation to the City Council regarding the National Youth Sports Coaches Association and the City becoming a Member Chapter C. Board to consider a recommendation to the City Council regarding Indoor Recreational Facilities VII. ADJOURNMENT IN ACCORDANCE WITH ARTICLE 6252-17, V.A.T.C.S., AS AMENDED BY CHAPTER 227, ACTS OF THE 61ST LEGISLATURE, REGULAR SESSION, 1969, THE PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD AGENDA WAS PREPARED AND POSTED ON THIS THE 20TH. DAY OF AUGUST, 1987. DIRECTOR OF PARKS AND RECREATION CITY OF GRAPEVINE >> COUNTY OF TARRANT >> STATE OF TEXAS >> The City of Grapevine Parks and Recreation Board convened in regular meeting at 8:00 p.m. on this the 27th. day of August, 1987, with the following members present to -wit: Randall Stem Bill Martin Sue Burgtorf Julian Dyke Members Absent: Bobby Wise Staff Present: Kevin Conklin Mark Mailes Margaret Telford Alex McKee Bobby Nery Shane Wilbanks Mike Conroy John MacDonald Kelvin Knauf Youth Sport Representatives Present: Football: Dennis McGrath, Debbie McGrath, Sue Morgan Soccer: Tom Crutsinger Baseball: Steve Grimm, Terry Maddox, Jim Hawkins, Linda Hawkins YMCA Representatives Present: Laura Ira Chris Schafer Ken Harris The meeting was called to order by Sue Burgtorf. Sue gave the invocation. The following reports, under Discussion Items, were made by the Youth Sport representatives: (1) Soccer - projects 50 teams for the fall season; season will begin September 12, 1987 and go through Thanksgiving; fall practice begins September 5, 1987; projects 55 teams for the Spring 188 season; (2) Baseball - had 200 players and 15 teams with baseball leagues in 1987; with Five Pitch, had 185 players; concerned with lack of communication with Baseball Board/5 Pitch; Alex McKee will assist with the program again in 1988; (3) Football - the Fall 1987 season begins September 19, 1987 and ends November 17, 1987; projects 130-140 boys, 75-80 cheerleaders; practice begins September 8, 1987; would like to use Mustang Stadium for playoffs. Under Discussion Items, John MacDonald discussed and reviewed the National Youth Sports Coaches Association Program with the Board and Sport Association representatives. Football, Baseball and Soccer all voiced support for the program. Under Action Items, Alex McKee motioned and Margaret Telford seconded to adopt the NYSCA Program, as a mandatory requirement beginning in 1988. The motion was approved unanimously. The recommendation will be taken to the City Council for September 15, 1987 consideration. Under Discussion Items, the Board heard a report by Kelvin Knauf of the City Staff regarding a proposed City/YMCA indoor recreation center program. After much discussion, it was decided to review the proposal again on September 24, 1987 at the next Board meeting. The Staff was requested to provide program comparisons from different facilities, and program costs. The next meeting will be September 24, 1987. There being no further business, a motion to adjourn was made by Margaret Telford, and seconded by Bobbie Nery. All present voted aye. The meeting was adjourned.
