BOB ORMEROD, EXHAULTED RULER OF THE GRAPEVINE ELKS LODGE, WILL GIVE A PRESENTATION. B. BOARD TO CONSIDER UPDATE TO THE 1982 PARK MASTER PLAN AND TAKE ANY NECESSARY ACTION. VII. MA.A.E�"'Mw C. Park Master Plan - Natural Resource Area Update - The update was presented and was tabled until January 11, 1990 at 7:00 PM at the Senior Citizen Center. There being no further business before the Board, the meeting adjourned. [�(Yj hod'-�M DIREC OR OF PARKS AND RECREATION r, r CHAIRMAN OF THE PBOARD CITY OF GRAPEVINE COUNTY OF TARRANT STATE OF TEXAS The City of Grapevine Parks and Recreation Board met Thursday, January 11, 1990 at 7:00 p.m. at the Grapevine Senior Citizen's Center, 421 North Church Street, Grapevine, Texas, with the following members present, to -wit: Bill Martin Ray Payne Robert Brunson David O'Briant Margaret Telford Dick Rawlins Julian Dyke Alex McKee Bobby Kay Nery Shane Wilbanks Jackie Dissolkoen The following City Staff were present: Mark Mailes Joe Moore Doug Kratz The meeting was called to order at 7:06 PM. The minutes of the January 4, 1990 meeting were approved. Miscellaneous Reports Austin Oaks - Bill Martin reported on receiving a 54,000 square foot park site. Glade IV Subdivision donated 2.9 acres with $60,000 cash donation and $30,000 worth of improvements to the 2.9 acres park site. A report was given on the Public Hearing that was held on January 8th. The City Council approved the Lake Grapevine Master Plan, but the Council suggested that the Park Board review and reevaluate the Big Bear Creek Nature Area and Park System then resubmit it to the Council. Co -Sponsored Sports Associations gave reports: 1. Baseball - Phillip Donaldson, President, stated that in 1988, 325 to 350 children participated in Pee Wee Baseball, 475 to 480 in 1989, and that they expect 600 plus in 1990. Sign-ups are the 2nd week in February; April 9th season starts and June 1st season ends. The Hoods should be on the backstops (fields 3 & 4) by the start of the season. A request was made for a taller backstop on field #6. Staff will research feasibility. With the continued increase in enrollment, the need for more fields will be necessary. 2. Soccer - Ruben Amezaga, President reported that in the Fall of 1989 there were 65 teams, approximately 900 children and they anticipate 70 to 75 teams for Spring, 1990. Unable to avoid a 3 - 4 week overlap with baseball. Looking at a 8 week season. Complimented having lights. Requested something be done regarding the soil at the Dallas Road Soccer practice fields. Meadowmere Fields are used as alternate practice fields. Soccer Assn. recommends moving all or none to there from Dallas Rd; Dove Elem; Dove Park; Parr Park; Pickering Park. The largest increase is in under 11 years age groups. Recommend making 2 fields out of larger practice fields at Dallas Rd. 3. Tennis - Debbie Zimmer is President and Mary Johnson is Vice President. Reported there were 42 women in the Fall season. Lighting at Dove is inadequate so night games or leagues are out. The season will begin February 20th and ends June 1st. Requested the cracks at Dove Courts be repaired. March 19th (Spring Break) is scheduled for the repair of the cracks. 4. Football - Roy Gentry, President reported that 148 children participated in Pee Wee Football, and had 96 cheerleaders. Had a projected 10% growth. Registration is the last week in July and the first two in August. Season starts in September. Practices are at Parr Park and fields 3 & 4 at O. C. Taylor. No injuries reported in 1989. Elks Club The Elks Club gave a presentation requesting a facility be built in Oak Grove Park - Snakey Lane area. Speakers were Sob Ormerod, Ed Wells, President, and Mike Clark. Proposed specs of a lodge building were presented to the Park Board. The Board held a discussion. A motion was made and seconded to close the discussion. Then, a motion was made and seconded to reject the Elks proposed site. Yea: Telford; Payne; Nery; Martin; Brunson; O'Briant; McKee Nays: Disselkoen Abst: Dyke Parks and Recreation Superintendent Report Doug Kratz presented the 1989 Annual Report, 1990 Athletic Calendar, and long range goals and objectives.
