review and reevaluate the Big Bear Creek Nature Area and Park
System then resubmit it to the Council.
Co -Sponsored Sports Associations gave reports:
1. Baseball - Phillip Donaldson, President, stated that in
1988, 325 to 350 children participated in Pee Wee
Baseball, 475 to 480 in 1989, and that they expect 600
plus in 1990. Sign-ups are the 2nd week in February;
April 9th season starts and June 1st season ends.
The Hoods should be on the backstops (fields 3 & 4) by
the start of the season. A request was made for a
taller backstop on field #6. Staff will research
feasibility. With the continued increase in enrollment,
the need for more fields will be necessary.
2. Soccer - Ruben Amezaga, President reported that in the
Fall of 1989 there were 65 teams, approximately 900
children and they anticipate 70 to 75 teams for Spring,
1990. Unable to avoid a 3 - 4 week overlap with
baseball. Looking at a 8 week season. Complimented
having lights.
Requested something be done regarding the soil at the
Dallas Road Soccer practice fields.
Meadowmere Fields are used as alternate practice fields.
Soccer Assn. recommends moving all or none to there from
Dallas Rd; Dove Elem; Dove Park; Parr Park; Pickering
Park.
The largest increase is in under 11 years age groups.
Recommend making 2 fields out of larger practice fields
at Dallas Rd.

Vice President. Reported there were 42 women in the
Fall season. Lighting at Dove is inadequate so night
games or leagues are out. The season will begin

19th (Spring Break) is scheduled for the repair of the
cracks.
4. Football - Roy Gentry, President reported that 148
children participated in Pee Wee Football, and had 96
cheerleaders. Had a projected 10% growth. Registration
is the last week in July and the first two in August.
Season starts in September. Practices are at Parr Park
and fields 3 & 4 at O. C. Taylor. No injuries reported
in 1989.
