OLD BUSINESS cont.
Interpretive Visitor Center Review: Warren Dearing reported that he had positive feedback from
the people with whom he discussed the center. The board was very supportive of the concept.
The board wants to stay active in the program and will continue to solicit input. The location
will be very important. It is felt that it is important for the center to be most accessible to
people crossing Grapevine. The visitor center will distribute visitors over all of Grapevine. If
a site were selected today, Mr. McCallum felt that the south east corner of Main Street and
Highway 114 would be a good location.
NEW BUSINESS
Budget Development Committee Appointments: Mr. Bigbie appointed Warren Dearing and Gary
Blagg to sit on the Budget Development Committee. This committee is not to be confused with
the Marketing Committee which operates on a calendar year of January 1 through December 31
while the budget operates on an October 1 through September 30 time frame. The budget is
drafted during late spring/early summer.

SALES AND MARKETING REPORT
Staffing Reassignment: Kathi Berry and Jill Jeffcoat, sales managers for the bureau have
switched positions and will be cross-trained in their respective markets. This will be beneficial
as we look towards an opening of a hotel on South Main.
Fran Fairchild shared the FAM invitations for the Spring FAM, as well as, a letter from one
of the attendees at the DFWATC Media FAM. She shared an article from "Southern Living"
on Saving Our Towns in which we had two photos and an insert on Grapevine. This was a
national run of the publication.
EXECUTIVE DIRECTORS REPORT
Foundation Report: The project superintendent for the turntable project is housed in our
building and is bringing in contractors daily. The excavation will begin this weekend if weather
permits. Next week repair work will begin on the turntable itself with installation the latter part
of May.
•
Next week work will begin at the Heritage Center Complex on the drainage and parking lot
project.

EXECUTIVE DIRECTORS REPORT cont.
Tasting Room Brochure: Mr. McCallum shared the new Tasting Room brochure with the board.
It is an economic development piece relating what Grapevine is doing in the wine industry. We
are in discussions with Schoppaul Hill and Pheasant Ridge about locating tasting rooms in
Grapevine.
Saturday will be a soft opening for the Visitor Information Center in the Depot. The grand
opening will be scheduled for sometime this summer. The center is being run by trained
volunteers.
The Blacksmith Shop is_being built with donated funds and most of the labor is being donated
by the Public Works Department. It will be officially dedicated Saturday, May 20th. It is a
replica of Millican's that was located where Jameson's City Drug is now.
In the next few weeks the last remaining share cropper's house on Wildwood will be relocated
to the Heritage Center Complex site. The plan is to have a night watchman live in the house
to help secure the Heritage Center Complex.
The restoration of the section house should also begin in the next few weeks.
ADJOURNMENT
Warren Dearing made a motion that the meeting be adjourned. Motion was seconded by Peggy
Britt; motion carried.
