MINUTES
The Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau Board of Directors met on Thursday, March 26,
1998 at the Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau with the following persons in attendance:

CALL TO ORDER
Mr. Bigbie called the meeting to order.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
A motion to approve the minutes from the February 26, 1998 Board Meeting was made by Steve
Trent, seconded by Bill Brink. Motion carried.
OLD BUSINESS
Grapevine New Vintage Wine and Art Festival-
Mr. Kakos reported the festival will begin with the Blessing of the Vines on Thursday, April 16,
Ifollowed by a red and white wine tasting at LaBuena Vida on Friday, April 17. Saturday's
festivities will include a barrel tasting at Delaney Vineyard, a brunch at the Convention Center
as well as wine tasting events at the Heritage Center Complex. He stated that 12 wineries from
Texas and 6 countries would be represented. A promotional campaign would target 47,000
homes.
IVisitor Information Center Update-
Mr. McCallum stated the Visitor Information Center would move over to the new facility the
Ity week prior to the New Vintage Wine and Art Festival for a soft opening. He reported the
graphics should go up next week as well as signage. The Dallas/Fort Worth Area Tourism
Council and the Texas Wine and Grape Growers Association are currently functioning there.

I Public Restrooms Tlpdate-
The public restrooms are completed and the Certificate of Occupancy has been issued.
NEW BUSINESS-
IIBalvin Family Donation to the Convention & Visitors Bureau-
Mr. McCallum reported the Marvin Balvin Family has donated a 1926 Depot Hack for use as the
I centerpiece at the Visitors Information Center. The back of the vehicle will hold brochures. A
plaque will be installed on the vehicle to acknowledge the donation from the Balvin family.
I A motion was made by Steve Trent to very appreciatively accept the Balvin donation; motion was
seconded by Gayle Hall.
I Murrin Family Donation to the Convention & Visitors Bureau- Steve Murrin Jr. of Fort Worth
donated his father's 1951 Chevrolet Truck to the Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau. A
Illy motion was made by Gayle Hall to accept the Murrin donation; motion was seconded by Gary
Blagg.
Grants In Aid Request- Arts Council of Northeast Tarrant County-
"! Arts Council of Northeast Tarrant County submitted a grants-in-aid request in the amount of
$5,000 to assist with publicity, promotion and printing of their events calendar and to help obtain
IIIa matching grant from the Texas Commission on the Arts. Discussion followed.
A motion was made by Gayle Hall to table the request until next month's Board Meeting , when
I a representative from the Arts Council can be present to make a formal presentation and answer
questions; motion seconded by Steve Trent.
I SALES AND MARKETING REPORT-
Mr. Kakos reported that the 10th Annual St. Patrick's Day Sales Promotion was a great success
with over 100 meeting planners in attendance. He also stated that 39 sales calls were made
Iresulting in 6 leads and 15 potential leads. The media event was also well attended with major
publications represented.
IIIMr. Kakos reported articles focusing on Grapevine and its attractions recently appeared in several
publications including Insurance Specialist, Southern Living and the home section of the Star
lit iv Telegram.
FXECT JTIVE DIRECTORS REPORT-
II - Mr. McCallum reported that the CVB would be setting up a billboard through Digital City for
America On Line by mid-April.

EXECUTIVE DIRECTORS REPORT (cont.)-
- DART did not accept Union Pacific's proposal for Railtec. Grapevine, along with other
communities are trying to persuade DART to accept Tarantula.
- Homestead plans to open a Wine Tasting Room by New Vintage Wine and Art Festival.
- The CVB hosted 20 of judges from the Dallas Morning News Wine Competition at Delaneys
and on Main Street.
ADJOT TRNMENT
There being no further business to bring before the Board, Mr. Bigbie called for a motion to
adjourn. Motion was made by Gayle Hall; seconded by Bill Brink.
