MEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
/
FROM: ROGER NELSON, CITY MANAGER '
MEETING DATE: JUNE 6, 2000
SUBJECT: WORKSESSION REVIEW OF FIRST UNITED METHODIST
CHURCH MASTER PLAN
At the May 16, 2000 City Council Meeting a public hearing was held for the First United
Methodist Church's plat, conditional use permit and special use permit. Because of
questions about the ultimate development of the property, the orientation of the
sanctuary and access for the church's school, the items were tabled until the June 6
meeting.
The church will be presenting its master plan and providing information regarding the
plan's development to its current status. The pastor, architect, building committee and
executive committee will be present to address any questions that may arise during the
presentation. This work session will be a joint meeting with the City Council and the
Planning and Zoning Commission.
The regular agenda for both the Council and P&Z includes the first readings for the two
permit cases under old business as well as the plat itself. The P&Z has 30 days to act
on a plat from the filing date and the City Council has 30 days after that to act on the
P&Z's recommendation. The plat filing date is May 5, 2000, which makes the end of the
P&Z's 30 days June 4th and the Council's 30 days July 4`h. John Boyle will brief the
Council on the options available during the meeting. The Council agenda also includes
the abandonment of Franklin Street as that item was tabled to June 6, specifically. The
permit cases are for first readings only as the Board of Zoning Adjustment has yet to
consider the variances requested for the project. Staff is recommending that the
abandonment of Franklin be tabled until the July 18 meeting, when the permit cases are
scheduled for their second readings.
