MEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
FROM: ROGER NELSON, CITY MANAGER
MEETING DATE: JULY 18, 2000
SUBJECT: BOARD/COMMISSION APPOINTMENTS
RECOMMENDATION:
City Council to appoint citizens to the City's various boards/commissions and consider
the formal establishment of a Senior Advisory Council.
BACKGROUND:
Each year at this time, the City Council reviews and considers citizen appointments to
the various boards/commissions. Notifications of vacancies on the boards/commissions
were published in the Fort Worth Star Telegram, Dallas Morning News, and The
Grapevine Sun. Applications were compiled and distributed to the City Council and Staff
on Friday, May 12. Attendance records for each board/commission from June 1999 -
May 2000 were provided in the packet delivered to the Council. Applicant interviews
were conducted by City Council panels during June and July.
In 1999 a Senior Advisory Council was created following the first Senior Forum. It was a
volunteer board staffed by the City Manager's Office and the Parks and Recreation
Department. Over the past 15 months the Senior Advisory Council has developed into a
very active board and it is staff's recommendation that the City Council consider formally
recognizing this board, appointing members and assigning a liaison. If it is Council's
desire to formally create this board, staff will bring a resolution forward at the July 31,
2000 meeting for adoption and begin to advertise for applicants for the board.
