SUBJECT: TREE REMOVAL APPLICATION TR99-04 FOR GRAPEVINE
MIDDLE SCHOOL
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends the Planning and Zoning Commission considers Tree Removal
Application TR99-04 for Grapevine Middle School and takes any action deemed
necessary.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The applicant is requesting that the Planning and Zoning Commission consider a tree
removal application for the site of the future Grapevine Middle School located at 301 N.
Scribner Road. This property was rezoned at the June 15, 1999 joint public hearing
from "R -MF -1" and "R -MF -2", Multi -Family District to "GU", Government Use District for
the development of the future Grapevine Middle School. The applicant is requesting to
remove approximately 1,536 -caliper inch trees in order to adequately develop the site.
The applicant proposes to replace the removed trees with 1,538 -caliper inch trees
throughout the site. The applicants propose to use a variety of trees that will be a
minimum of three -caliper inches in diameter and seven feet in height.

11. Survey locating trees on the site to be removed that are three (3) inch caliper or
greater when measured at a point four and one-half (4 1/2) feet above the ground
level. Trees to be removed shall be designated by a triangle.
12. Tree information required above shall be summarized in legend form on the plan
and shall include the reason for the proposed removal. This same summary shall
also be submitted on an 8.5" x 11" sheet of paper.
13. Tree Replacement Plan: The plan shall exhibit the location of proposed trees to be
replaced and include a legend indicating the species, caliper size and height of
proposed tree replacement. Replacement trees shall be designated by a square.
The legend shall also be submitted on an 8.5" x 11" sheet of paper.
(a) No replacement tree may be planted within a visibility triangle, a water
course, or an existing or proposed street or alley.
(b) A replacement tree must have a minimum caliper of at least three (3)
inches when measured at six (6) inches above ground level.
(c) A replacement tree that dies within two years of the date it was
planted must be replaced by another replacement tree that complies
with the Tree Preservation Permit.
14. Tree Protection Plan: The plan shalt describe how existing healthy trees proposed
to be retained will be protected from damage during construction.
THE DEVELOPMENT SERVICES STAFF WILL DETERMINE THE AGENDA FOR EACH
OF THE PUBLIC HEARING DATES BASED ON THE SIZE OF THE AGENDA. YOU
APPLICATION MAYBE RESCHEDULED TO A LATER DATE

On behalf of the Grapevine-Colleyville Independent School District, I hereby request a permit for tree
removal and replacement. The trees will be removed to allow for the construction of a new middle
school, athletic fields, and parking areas. Only the trees in these areas will be removed. Trees not
required to be removed shall remain unharmed.
In addition to the approved Site Plan and Final Plat, I am enclosing a Landscaping Plan and Tree
Removal Plan. The landscaping plan shows proposed or new trees to be used for replacement. The
Tree Removal Plan indicates areas that will remain in its natural state. Grading or clearing are not
permitted in these areas.
We appreciate your consideration on this matter, and are available to provide any additional
information you require.
