6. LIAISON REPORTS
A. Grapevine Convention and Visitors Bureau Liaison Report — Paul W. McCallum
Mr. McCallum reported on the CVB Christmas Capitol of Texas events. The Carol of Lights
was very well attended. The event was expanded and had many good reports and media
coverage. The Parade of Lights had great participation, everything ran smoothly with great
attendance. There was a 31d Drone Show this year at the north end of Main Street over City
Hall. With two shows on the South end of Main Street near the CVB all shows were well
attended. Then North Pole Express had 162 runs all were a sellout. We changed up the
shows this year, each train car had its own production. We brought in meeting planners and
media groups from all around the US and International, planning ahead for the 2024
Christmas season.
The hotel room occupancy during CCOT was up 3.8% to 74%. If you look at comps from 30
years ago in December the occupancy numbers were around to 32%.
After Christmas we had some last runs to the Stock yards and Trinity River, then closed on
New Year's Eve. The train is shut down for annual servicing, recertification and maintenance
to the coaches. The train will have a special event train, the Valentine's Train, February 14
with the official season kickoff, Saturday, February 17, 2024.
For the eclipse April the 8th, we are planning different entertainment and activities at Peace
Plaza area. We are working with international and motor coach tourism groups and are still
promoting more slots.
We are preparing for the 40th annual Main Street Fest, May 17-19. Our own GHF Board
Member, Wendy Nelson and her husband Seth are the chairpersons for this festival.
B. City Council Liaison Update — Duff O'Dell
Councilwoman Duff O'Dell reported that the Council is kicking off the new year, 2024!
The Council has passed a resolution on short term rentals to be regulated. This will provide
the neighborhoods and Historic District with strict regulations. We are still waiting on the
court to make final decisions.
The Grapevine Brownstones, Phase II on Dallas Road was approved. The renderings are
nice and the project will help us develop the Dallas Road corridor.
Great Wolf Lodge was approved to make some improvements and additions to the building
and will be adding some large wolfs in the front.
