SUBJECT: CONSIDER APPROVAL OF A CONCEPT PLAN OF SILVER
LAKE CAMPGROUND
RECOMMENDATION:
The Parks & Recreation Advisory Board and staff recommend the City Council consider
approval of a concept plan of Silver Lake Campground that was prepared by Carter &
Burgess. The concept plan is attached for review.
BACKGROUND:
At the September 6, 2004 Council meeting, the City Council approved 25 -year leases
with the Corps of Engineers for Meadowmere Park, Oak Grove Park and Silver Lake
Park. The City Council also approved a five-year development plan for the three parks.
Included in the five-year development plan were improvements to the Silver Lake
Campground. The improvements include the following elements.
• Upgrade from 30 amp to 50 amp electrical service
• Install 5 self-service cabins
• Replace existing restroom facilities
• Add 10 courtesy docks to existing waterfront camping sites
• Create 13 new RV pad sites
• Construct a small reservation pavilion
• Install signage identifying the Environmentally Sensitive Areas as identified by
the Corps of Engineers
On the attached concept plan of the Silver Lake Campground, the five cabins are shown
as red squares and the 13 new camping sites are in purple. The road improvements
and reconfigured pad sites are in light blue.
The Parks & Recreation Advisory Board reviewed and approved the concept plan for the
campground at Silver Lake Park at the November 181h meeting. The Board and staff
recommend approval of the concept plan.
