SUBJECT: CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT AWARD — BS 114L WATER
MAIN IMPROVEMENTS
RECOMMENDATION:
City Council consider awarding the BS 114L Water Main Improvements Construction
Contract to Canary Construction Inc. in an amount of $506,855.75, authorize staff to
execute said contract, and take any necessary action.

The project includes approximately 4,944 linear feet of 12" water main between the S.H.
114 westbound frontage road and Wall Street with water and sanitary sewer crossings
across BS 114L. Portions of the new water main are replacing an existing water main to
accommodate future construction on the BS 114L roadway widening. The remainder of
the new water main will provide a continuous looped water system for the BS 114L
corridor.

The sewer main crossing is being relocated to accommodate the BS 114L widening.
Bids were opened on February 22, 2005 with ten bidders submitting bids for the project
as follows:

The engineer's estimate for the project is $ 513,200.00.
The low bidder, Canary Construction Inc, is a qualified contractor with the ability to
perform the work. The reference check indicates that Canary has performed well on
other similar projects. Canary performed work for the City of Grapevine approximately
four years ago with no problems in either quality or timeliness.
Based on their low bid, staff recommends this project be awarded to Canary
Construction, Inc.
