MARCH 15, 2005
APPROVAL OF AN ANNUAL CONTRACT FOR THE
PURCHASE OF TRAFFIC CONDUIT INSTALLATION
SERVICES
City Council to consider a contract award to Multiple Cable Systems to establish an
annual contract for the purchase of traffic conduit installation services on an as needed
basis. The total annual cost will be limited to the budgeted amount for this service.
Attached is the bid tabulation for review.
FUNDING SOURCE:
Funds are available in account 174-43301-093-000 St. Maint./Cap. Replacement/Traffic
Sign & Signals Maintenance and will be limited to the budgeted amount for this service.
BACKGROUND:
Bids were taken in accordance with Local Government Code Chapter 252, Subchapter
B, Section 252.021 (a) and Section 252.041 (a). The bid advertisement posted in the
Fort Worth Star Telegram and the Grapevine Sun on February 3, 2005 and February 10,
2005. Staff issued bid documents to five contractors. Two contractors responded to the
invitation.
The invitation requested pricing for the installation of various types and sizes of traffic
conduit to be ordered on an as needed basis by the traffic department. Bids were
received from Multiple Cable Systems and Durable Specialties, Inc. Multiple Cable
Systems provided the lowest estimated annual cost of $43,040.00. Both vendors have
conducted business with the City in the past and have provided excellent service.
To insure the availability of service, Staff recommends that contracts be awarded to
Multiple Cable Systems as primary vendor and Durable Specialties, Inc. as secondary
vendor for the requested services.
