SUBJECT: PURCHASE OF MOBILE VEHCLE BARRIERS FOR THE POLICE
DEPARTMENT
RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider approval for the purchase of mobile vehicle
barriers from Meridian Rapid Defense Group.
FUNDING SOURCE: Funds are available in the Grant Fund in the amount of $105,000.
BACKGROUND: This purchase is for mobile vehicle barriers to be utilized for the many
events which occur in the City, especially around the Historic District.
These barriers will prevent vehicles from forcibly entering a secured area,
protecting the people attending the various events. The attached photo is
an example, however, the barriers we purchase will be branded with the
City logo.
The Grant and the associated Ordinance No. 2023-74 were approved by
Council on November 7, 2023.
This purchase will be made in accordance with an existing interlocal
agreement with the General Services Administration (GSA) as allowed by
Texas Local Government Code, Chapter 271 and Texas Government
Code, Chapter 791.
Bids were taken by the Cooperative and a contract was awarded to
Meridian Rapid Defense Group. The Public Works Department, the Police
Department, the Fire Department, and Purchasing staff reviewed the
contract for departmental specification compliance and pricing and
determined that the contract would best meet the needs of the City.
