FUNDING SOURCE: Funds are available from the Wastewater Permanent Capital Maintenance Fund (WW- PCMF). Hydrogen sulfide gas (H2S) "sewer gas" is a by-product of waste material and is present in sewage handling facilities. Hydrogen sulfide converts to sulfuric acid when it comes in contact with water and is very corrosive. Over time the corrosive action of the sulfuric acid degrades the concrete, jeopardizing the structural integrity of the sewage lift station wet wells. June 13, 2005 (3:53PM) This project will address the re -lining of the wet well walls at the above-mentioned lift stations. The sewage will be conveyed by a by-pass pumping system and the wet wells of each station will be sandblasted and re -coated with an epoxy coating system that is resistant to the sulfuric acid corrosion. The process will lengthen the useful life of the concrete structures of the respective stations. DeltaTek Engineering is a company that specializes in coating system design and inspection. They have provided this service to the City of Grapevine for a number of our elevated water storage tanks and have done an excellent job. Staff recommends approval of the design contract and inspection services in the amount of $21,602.00. The total estimated cost of the project is $169,142.40, with a contingency of $12,000, bringing the total project cost to $202.744.40.
