SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF A CHANGE ORDER TO CLASSIC CHEVROLET
FOR THE PURCHASE OF A REPLACEMENT VEHICLE FOR
THE POLICE DEPARTMENT
RECOMMENDATION:
City Council to consider approval of a change order to Classic Chevrolet under bid 215-
2005 for the purchase of a replacement vehicle for the Police Department in an amount
not to exceed $18,136.00.
FUNDING:
Funds are available in accounts:
100-45561-109-1 General Fund/Insurance/P & L Claims Paid .......... $12,708.00
100-48910-209-2 Police Dept. Operating Funds ............................ $ 5,428.00
BACKGROUND:
This request is to approve a change order to Classic Chevrolet for the purchase of a
Police Department replacement vehicle damaged in an accident. The vehicle damaged
is a 2003 Ford Crown Victoria. The replacement will be a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer.
The City insurance policy covered $12,708.00 for the damaged vehicle and will be paid
from the insurance fund. The remaining $5,428.00 will be paid from the Police Dept.
General Fund Operating Funds.
The purchase will be made as a change order to the purchase order issued to Classic
Chevrolet as part of this year's budget for fleet vehicles. Staff presented bids and
Council approved Classic Chevrolet as the awarded vendor at the March 15 meeting.
The change order is in accordance with Local Government Code Chapter 252.048 (d)
that allows an increase of the original contract amount by up to 25%. The original total
approved by Council was $690,458.34. This purchase will increase the total amount to
Classic Chevrolet by 3% and will be within the 25% allowed.
Staff recommends approval of a change order to Classic Chevrolet in the total amount of
$18,136.00.
