MEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, ACTING CITY MANAGER —
MEETING DATE: NOVEMBER 15, 2005
SUBJECT: STOP SIGN REMOVAL ON DOOLEY STREET AT THE
COTTON BELT RAIL ROAD CROSSING
RECOMMENDATION:
City Council to consider approving the removal of stop signs on Dooley Street at the
Cottonbelt Railroad crossing, and take any necessary action.
BACKGROUND:
The stop signs were needed to provide for a safe crossing at the railroad tracks since
the crossing did not have automatic gates. In addition, the previous alignment of Dooley
Street had restricted sight visibility near the railroad crossing. The new alignment
provides for better sight visibility. Also, new automatic gates with warning lights have
been installed. The stop signs, which will not meet the state warrant/standard for a
permanent installation. The signs were removed immediately after the automatic gates
were installed at the request of the Railroad. The Council approval will allow us to
update the ordinance to reflect this change.
Staff recommends approval.
