MEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
FROM: ROGER NELSON, CITY MANAGER A)
MEETING DATE: AUGUST 17, 2004
SUBJECT: STOP SIGN CHANGES AT VARIOUS LOCATIONS
RECOMMENDATION:
City Council consider adopting an ordinance amending Section 23-30, Stop
Intersections, for various Stop sign installations and deletions in the City of Grapevine,
and take any necessary action.
BACKGROUND:
The changes to the Stop control at the following locations are needed as a result of the
new Dove Loop connection between Dove Road and Main Street.
• Park Road 1 at Dove Loop
• Murrell Road at Dove Loop
• Shady Brook Drive at Dove Loop
• Main Street at Dove Loop
Additionally, certain intersections will have the stop control reconfigured as follows:
• the intersection of Boyd Drive and Dove Loop has Stop signs facing Dove Loop.
Once the new Dove Loop connection is completed, Dove Loop will become the major
thoroughfare. Therefore, the Stop control is being reconfigured from Dove Loop to
Boyd Drive.
• the intersection of Main Street and Dove Loop is currently controlled by a Stop sign
facing westbound Dove Loop. Once the west leg of Dove Loop is connected to Main
Street, the Stop control will be moved to Main Street.
• The intersection of Dove Loop and Dooley Street currently has Stop signs facing
Dove Loop. The Stop control will be replaced with a traffic signal control.
Finally, certain intersections no longer have stop signs as reflected in the City Code.
These intersections are being deleted as follows:
• Eastbound Peach Street at Boyd Drive
• Westbound Peach Street at Dooley Street
August 11, 2004 (1:52PM)
• Westbound Peach Street at Main Street
Installation of the Stop signs provides motorists a clear indication of right-of-way,
reduces confusion and enhances traffic safety. However, unless the installation is
approved by City Ordinance, it cannot be enforced. Staff recommends approval.
