HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 11 - Pedestrians MEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER
MEETING DATE: APRIL 2, 2024
SUBJECT: PEDESTRIAN SAFETY ORDINANCE
RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider an amendment to Chapter 23, Article IV.
Pedestrians by adding Section 23-52 to the Grapevine Code of
Ordinances relative to pedestrian safety.
FUNDING SOURCE: NA
BACKGROUND: Over the past several months there has been an increase in the number
of pedestrians entering the roadway or standing on medians for
solicitation, demonstration or other reasons. The close proximity to vehicle
traffic creates an unsafe environment for both drivers and pedestrians.
This ordinance makes it unlawful to stand on medians or within four feet of
a curbed roadway or 10 feet of a non-curbed roadway. Pedestrians
actively crossing a road, rendering aid, working in the right-of-way, or
performing other City approved activities are exempt from this ordinance.
Staff recommends approval.
