HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
ROGER NELSON, CITY MANAGER*1
FEBRUARY 17, 2004
STREET NAMES — GAYLORD TRAIL & CONVENTION CENTER
DRIVE
City Council consider adopting an Ordinance amending Section 20-7, Street Name
Changes, of the City Code of Ordinances in its entirety to:
• Name the entrance roadway into the Gaylord Texan Hotel and Convention Center
complex from SH 26 — Gaylord Trail,
• Name the extension of Ruth Wall Road across the south boundary of the Gaylord
Texan Hotel and Convention Center to its intersection with Gaylord Trail —
Convention Center Drive, and
• Reconfigure the entire Section 20 - 7 to list alphabetically for ease of retrieval,
authorize staff to erect the appropriate signs and take any necessary action.
BACKGROUND:
Gaylord Trail and Convention Center Drive serve as the two access routes into the
Gaylord Texan Hotel and Convention Center Complex. To date, the roadways are
restricted to public access to maintain site security during construction.
With the scheduled opening of the hotel on April 2, 2004, both roads will be opened to
the public.
Gaylord Trail has been the accepted name for the primary entrance drive into the site
since the City began construction of the roadway in 2000. However, since the right of
way for this roadway was dedicated by deed, no formal action has been taken to
offically name the roadway.
February 9, 2004 (9:49AM)
Convention Center Drive is the secondary route into the hotel site for the general public
but does include direct access to the Convention Center Parking Garage. It also is the
primary access route for large delivery trucks destined for the convention center or the
hotel. Gaylord Staff has just recently forwarded a request to name the roadway
Convention Center Drive.
Staff recommends approval.
