HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 15 - Network SwitchesMEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER MEETING DATE: APRIL 16, 2024 SUBJECT: PURCHASE OF REPLACEMENT NETWORK SWITCHES FOR DATA CENTER AND CITY HALL RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider approval for the purchase of replacements for network switches for the Data Center and City Hall for the IT Department. FUNDING SOURCE: Funds are available in the Capital Equipment Purchase Fund for an estimated amount of $866,870. BACKGROUND: This request is to replace aging end of life network switches at the Data Center and end of life desktop switches at City Hall. This purchase will also add network monitoring equipment to the switches to automate critical software and security updates for the switches. This equipment will keep the City within security compliance standards, and provide more visibility for network threats and performance. This purchase will be made in accordance with Region VIII Education Service Center known as The Interlocal Purchasing System (TIPS) as allowed by Texas Local Government Code, Chapter 271 and Texas Government Code, Chapter 791. Bids were taken by the Cooperative and a contract was awarded to ePlus Inc. The IT Department and Purchasing staff reviewed the contract for departmental specification compliance and pricing and determined that the contract would provide the best product and pricing for meeting the needs of the City.
