MEETING DATE: APRIL 16, 2024
SUBJECT: PURCHASE OF REPLACEMENT NETWORK SWITCHES FOR DATA
CENTER AND CITY HALL
RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider approval for the purchase of replacements for
network switches for the Data Center and City Hall for the IT Department.
FUNDING SOURCE: Funds are available in the Capital Equipment Purchase Fund for an
estimated amount of $866,870.
BACKGROUND: This request is to replace aging end of life network switches at the Data
Center and end of life desktop switches at City Hall. This purchase will
also add network monitoring equipment to the switches to automate
critical software and security updates for the switches. This equipment will
keep the City within security compliance standards, and provide more
visibility for network threats and performance.
This purchase will be made in accordance with Region VIII Education
Service Center known as The Interlocal Purchasing System (TIPS) as
allowed by Texas Local Government Code, Chapter 271 and Texas
Government Code, Chapter 791.
Bids were taken by the Cooperative and a contract was awarded to ePlus

departmental specification compliance and pricing and determined that
the contract would provide the best product and pricing for meeting the
needs of the City.
