HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 09 - Fire CodeMEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER
MEETING DATE: MAY 7, 2024
SUBJECT: ADOPTION OF 2021 INTERNATIONAL FIRE CODE
RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider approval of an ordinance to amend Chapter 11 of
the Grapevine Code of Ordinances, Fire Protection and Prevention by
adopting the 2021 International Fire Code with local amendments.
FUNDING SOURCE:
BACKGROUND: The City of Grapevine has previously adopted model codes for fire
protection and prevention issues through Chapter 11 of the Code of
Ordinances. The City is currently regulated by the 2015 edition of the
International Fire Code with local amendments that was adopted in May of
2016.
The proposed code advances the level of fire and life safety with a focus
on our fire loss and future development. The code is proposed to be
adopted as written with a few exceptions. The International Code Council
has promulgated updated model codes and recommends same for
adoption by municipalities. This code update would be in keeping with the
recommendations of the Insurance Service Organization to have current
Codes and Standards.
Although this is not a significant number of amendments, there are a few
changes within the amendments or the code that will be updated. A
number of the amendments are editorial in nature or are recommended by
the North Central Texas Council of Governments Regional Code Advisory
Board for regional application.
The Building Board of Appeals has approved the proposed code and
amendments and recommends approval.
