GRAPEVINE PUBLIC LIBRARY — AMENDMENT TO
ARCHITECT CONTRACT
City Council consider approving an Amendment to the Contract with Philips Swager
Associates (PSA) for coordination, fabrication and installation of a three-dimensional
arbor entry into the Children's program area of the Library and coordination, fabrication
and installation of a garden scene mural adjacent to the Children's program area of the
Library in the amount of $31,560, authorizing staff to execute said Amendment, and take
any necessary action.

Funds for this item are available from the Project Contingency portion of the budget.
During the design charrettes held with the City Council, Staff and PSA Architects, the
development of a three-dimensional arbor entry and mural in the Children's program
area was discussed. However, the details of the mural and the arbor entry to the
Children's program area of the Library had not been finalized at the time of contract
award. The construction of these facets of the facility was not included in the
construction contract.
PSA recommended to the Library Board and Staff the consideration of Studio H Design
for the design of the mural and arbor entry work. After visiting with representatives of
Studio H Design, the Library Board and Staff are comfortable with the ideas they
presented and have chosen them as the firm to complete this portion of the work. The
PSA representatives have worked with Studio H Design in the past and are comfortable
coordinating the artist's work. Therefore, the PSA representatives will work with the
Contractor and the artist throughout the development of this part of the project.
Attached, please find a draft of the proposed mural artwork and the Arbor entrance to
the entire Children's Area which will be located across the aisle from the Circulation
desk. This attached draft of the mural is slightly different from what the final product will
look like, in that, the tool shed will be a playhouse with a little girl having a Teddy Bear
Tea Party. Also, the little girl on the swing will become a little boy. The mural will be 12'
high by and approximately 21.5 feet long. The doors to the playhouse will be the actual
doors to the Children's Program Area and there will be a short 4 foot high door into the
Children's Program Area located in the trunk of the tree.
The artwork and entryway are expected to be complete by the library construction
completion date in July of 2001.
The Facilities Committee and Staff recommend approval.

As requested we are proceeding with providing Professional Services in accordance with our Agreement dated as of
for the subject project.
City of Grapevine hereby authorizes PSA to:

1. Coordinate the installation, dimensional adjustments and fabrication of the three dimensional arbor entry into the
children's room entry area including faux lattice, stone, foliage and critters on the drywall entry built by the general
contractor.
For a cost of: 516,000 fabrication - Studio H Design

$1,200 coordination -PSA
plus additional hours for drawing/coordination:

2. Coordinate the installation and fabrication of the 12'-0" x 21'-6" mural depicting a garden scene, painted on flame
retardant canvas and sealed vv ith three coats of clear polyurethane. The price includes a color rendering of the scene.

Compensation shall be adjusted as follows:
