MEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
FROM: ROGER NELSON, CITY MANAGER`W
MEETING DATE: DECEMBER 5, 2000
SUBJECT: RESOLUTION DETERMINING NAMES FOR GOLF COURSE
HOLES
RECOMMENDATION:
City Council to consider a Resolution determining names for each nine holes of the golf
course.
BACKGROUND:
In 1998 the City embarked upon a project to add an additional nine holes to the existing
18 hole Municipal Golf Course and to remodel and improve the old facility. The
improvements made to the golf course include reshaping of the existing holes and
fairways, replacing the irrigation system, construction of new greens and tees and
regrassing the entire course.
In order to better manage play on the finished 27 -hole facility, staff recommends naming
each set of nine holes with a clearly identifiable name and symbol. This will help golfers
to make their way to the proper combination of 18 holes as they play their rounds of golf.
After discussion with the Golf Course Advisory Board, it is recommended that we use three
of the symbols of the state of Texas for identifying names for each nine holes. They are:
The Bluebonnet Nine (the newly added nine holes); The Mockingbird Nine (the old front
nine); The Pecan Nine (the old back nine along the dam). Each of these symbols happens
to be indigenous to the area and to the land on which the golf course is built. The symbols
will be clearly identifiable on the signs to be installed at the golf course as the project nears
completion next year.
Staff recommends approval.
