SUBJECT: PURCHASE OF PANASONIC TOUGH BOOKS
RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider the approval for the purchase of Panasonic
Toughbook computers from DFW Communications, Inc. for the Fire
Department.
FUNDING SOURCE: Funds are available in the Capital Equipment Purchase Fund for an
amount not to exceed $37,292.
BACKGROUND: This purchase is for seven rugged Toughbook computers and the
associated hardware/software. These specific computers are used in the
field by the Fire Department to complete patient reports on EMS calls and
transmit that information to the hospital and our billing company. These
units are specifically built to be used in the outside environment. This
purchase will replace existing equipment that has reached its end of life
and is no longer supported.
This purchase will be made in accordance with an existing interlocal
agreement with The Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR) as
allowed by Texas Local Government Code, Chapter 271 and Texas
Government Code, Chapter 791.
Bids were taken by the Cooperative and a contract was awarded to DFW
Communications, Inc. The Fire Department and Purchasing staff reviewed
the contract for departmental specification compliance and pricing and
determined that the contract would provide the best product and pricing
for meeting the needs of the City.
Staff recommends approval.
