SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF A RESOLUTION FOR A SOLE SOURCE
REPLACEMENT OF A SHUTTLE BUS ENGINE
City Council to consider approval of a resolution for a sole source replacement of a bus
engine for a CVB shuttle bus from Southwest International Trucks.
FUNDING SOURCE:
Funding for this purchase is currently available in account 100-43430-108-1 (Motor
Vehicle Maintenance) in the amount of $21,414.65.
BACKGROUND:
The City of Grapevine provides a shuttle service for its citizens, guests and visitors. With
a limited amount of buses and extended routes, any bus that is out of service impacts
operations. This bus was out of service for an engine defect that requires a complete
engine replacement. Southwest International Trucks will remove and install the engine in
this shuttle which includes a warranty.
Southwest International Trucks is the authorized sole source representative for this region,
offering captive replacement parts and components for bus equipment and repairs.
This procurement will be made as a sole source in accordance with Local Government
Code Chapter 252, Subchapter B, § 252.022. General Exemptions (a)(7)(d).
Staff recommends approval.
RESOLUTION NO.
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GRAPEVINE, TEXAS, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER
OR THE CITY MANAGER'S DESIGNEE TO APPROVE THE
SOLE SOURCE REPLACEMENT OF A SHUTTLE BUS
ENGINE AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City of Grapevine, Texas is a local government in the State of
Texas and as such is empowered by Texas Local Government Code Chapter 252,
Subchapter B, § 252.022. General Exemptions (a)(7)(d) to repair said equipment on a
sole source basis; and
WHEREAS, the sole source purchase is due to Southwest International Trucks
being the only company able to provide parts and components necessary to repair the
Convention and Visitors Bureau shuttle bus for the Fleet Department; and
WHEREAS, all constitutional and statutory prerequisites for the approval of this
resolution have been met, including but not limited to the Open Meetings Act; and
WHEREAS, the City Council deems the adoption of this resolution to be in the best
interests of the health, safety, and welfare of the public.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS:
Section 1. That all matters stated hereinabove are found to be true and correct
and are incorporated herein by reference as if copied in their entirety.
Section 2. That the City Council of the City of Grapevine authorizes the sole
source purchase for the replacement of a shuttle bus engine Fleet Department for an
amount not to exceed $21,414.65.
Section 3. That the City Manager or his designee is authorized to take all steps
necessary to consummate the repairs of said Convention and Visitors Bureau shuttle
bus.
